Tripura has launched an AI-powered Online School Inspection and Continuous Student Assessment system integrated with Vidya Samiksha Kendra to monitor schools, track student learning, strengthen accountability, improve foundational education, and enable real-time data-driven academic interventions across government schools.
In a landmark initiative aimed at transforming the education sector through technology, the School Education Department of Tripura has introduced a comprehensive AI-powered Online School Inspection and Continuous Student Assessment system to strengthen academic governance, improve learning outcomes, and enhance accountability across government schools in the state.
The innovative digital platform marks a major shift towards data-driven educational governance, enabling authorities to monitor school inspections and evaluate students’ academic progress in real time. The initiative is expected to significantly strengthen foundational education, particularly at the primary level, while ensuring transparent and evidence-based decision-making across the state’s education system.
The ambitious programme has been conceptualised under the guidance of Dr. Milind Ramteke, IAS, Secretary, School Education Department, and is being spearheaded by Dr. Samit Roy Chowdhury, Director of Elementary Education, who also holds the additional responsibilities of Director of Secondary Education and State Project Director, Samagra Shiksha.
Officials said the initiative represents one of the most significant technological reforms undertaken in Tripura’s education sector in recent years. The digital ecosystem has been fully integrated with the Vidya Samiksha Kendra (VSK), providing a live dashboard that allows education administrators at the state, district, and block levels to monitor school inspections, analyse student performance, identify learning gaps, and initiate timely academic interventions.
The platform will enable authorities to access real-time educational data, allowing policymakers to make informed decisions based on measurable outcomes rather than conventional reporting methods. Through continuous digital monitoring, officials can assess institutional performance, track classroom activities, and evaluate the quality of education being delivered in government schools.
To ensure effective implementation, the School Education Department has scheduled a virtual hands-on training programme for District Education Officers (DEOs), District MIS Coordinators, and NIPUN Coordinators. During the training, resource persons will demonstrate how to operate the digital dashboard and utilise district-level, block-level, and school-level analytics for academic planning and performance monitoring.
In another significant step towards decentralised governance, District Magistrates of all eight districts will also receive access to the dashboard. This will enable district administrations to review educational performance regularly and take timely corrective measures wherever necessary.
Preparations for the statewide rollout began several months ago. During June, the NIPUN Cell under the Directorate of Elementary Education successfully organised extensive hands-on training sessions for Block Resource Persons (BRPs), Cluster Resource Persons (CRPs), and Inspectors of Schools. These trained academic functionaries are now leading implementation at the grassroots level, ensuring smooth adoption of the digital inspection and assessment modules across schools.
According to departmental sources, the new system introduces a comprehensive accountability mechanism for educational supervision. The quality and frequency of school inspections carried out by BRPs and CRPs will now be monitored through the online platform. Officials demonstrating outstanding performance are expected to be recognised, while those requiring improvement will receive mentoring, counselling, and additional support to enhance their effectiveness in the field.
The Continuous Student Assessment module is another key feature of the initiative. It will provide teachers, school heads, and administrators with timely insights into students’ learning progress throughout the academic year. The system will identify children requiring additional academic support, allowing teachers to implement focused interventions before learning gaps become more significant.
Officials also noted that if learning outcomes remain consistently below expected standards across multiple assessment cycles, the department may recommend need-based professional development programmes through the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) for the concerned teachers. This approach aims to improve classroom teaching practices through continuous capacity building rather than relying solely on periodic evaluations.
Education experts believe the integration of artificial intelligence, digital monitoring, and academic supervision will significantly strengthen classroom practices and institutional accountability while promoting evidence-based educational planning. The availability of real-time learning data is expected to support targeted interventions that directly benefit students, particularly those at the foundational learning stage.
