GBP Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Bidhan Goswami said efforts are underway to resolve delays in MRI reports caused by a shortage of radiologists. The Tripura government aims to ensure MRI reports are delivered within 24 hours through improved manpower and IT support.
The authorities of GBP Hospital have assured that the ongoing delay in issuing MRI reports will soon be addressed through a combination of manpower enhancement and technological improvements. Medical Superintendent Dr. Bidhan Goswami on Wednesday said the hospital administration is actively working to ensure that MRI reports are delivered within 24 hours.
Addressing a press conference, Dr. Goswami explained that the primary reason behind the delay is the acute shortage of radiologists in the hospital’s Radiology Department. He said the department currently has only one Professor, one Associate Professor, two Assistant Professors and three Senior Residents, while some members of the existing workforce are also on leave.
He highlighted that the department handles a massive workload every day. On average, around 50 MRI scans, 125 CT scans, 250 X-ray examinations and nearly 100 sonography tests are conducted daily. Such a high volume of diagnostic procedures has placed significant pressure on the available medical professionals, resulting in delays and operational challenges.
Dr. Goswami acknowledged that the shortage of skilled personnel has led to certain irregularities in report delivery but emphasized that the hospital administration is committed to improving the situation. He stated that Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, who also holds the Health portfolio, has already issued necessary directions to address the issue on priority.
According to Dr. Goswami, the hospital is taking coordinated steps to strengthen the reporting system. He said the Information Technology (IT) section has a crucial role in streamlining the process, as digital solutions can significantly reduce delays in report preparation and delivery.
He further informed that discussions are currently underway with expert groups to develop and implement an improved reporting mechanism. Since introducing a new digital system requires careful planning and execution, the process may take some time. However, the administration remains optimistic that the upgraded system will enhance efficiency and ensure timely delivery of diagnostic reports.

Reaffirming the hospital’s commitment to patient care, Dr. Goswami said every effort is being made to provide faster and more efficient healthcare services. He expressed confidence that with administrative support, improved IT infrastructure and future strengthening of manpower, patients visiting GBP Hospital will receive MRI reports within the targeted 24-hour timeframe, ensuring better medical care and timely treatment decisions.
