A 41-year-old Cameroon national was arrested by the BSF for allegedly entering India illegally through the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura’s Belonia. A court granted three-day police custody as investigators probe possible links to illegal migration, trafficking, and cross-border networks.
A 41-year-old Cameroon national has been remanded to three days of police custody after being arrested for allegedly entering India illegally through the India-Bangladesh international border in Tripura’s Belonia sub-division. The arrest was made by the Border Security Force (BSF) during routine border surveillance, highlighting the continued vigilance of security agencies along the sensitive frontier.
The accused, identified as Peters Molla (41), was apprehended by personnel of the BSF’s 43 Battalion near the Ballamukha border under the Ishan Chandranagar Gram Panchayat area. According to officials, the foreign national allegedly crossed the barbed-wire fence from Bangladesh into Indian territory before being intercepted by BSF troops.
Following his detention, the accused was taken to the 43 Battalion Border Outpost (BOP), where BSF officials conducted preliminary questioning and completed the required legal formalities. He was later handed over to Belonia Police Station for further investigation.
Police produced the accused before a court in Belonia, seeking custody to examine the circumstances surrounding his alleged illegal entry into India. After considering the police request, the court granted three days of police remand, allowing investigators additional time to question the accused and gather evidence related to the case.
Officials said the investigation is currently focused on establishing the exact purpose of Peters Molla’s visit to India, the route he used to cross the international border, and whether he received assistance from any individuals or organised groups operating across the India-Bangladesh border.
Investigators are also examining whether the incident has any connection with illegal migration, human trafficking, or other organised cross-border criminal activities. Authorities believe the interrogation may provide crucial information about possible networks facilitating unlawful border crossings.

The India-Bangladesh border in Tripura remains one of the country’s most closely monitored international boundaries. Security agencies, including the BSF, regularly conduct surveillance and patrol operations to prevent illegal infiltration, smuggling, and other cross-border crimes.
Police officials stated that further action in the case will depend on the findings of the ongoing investigation. Additional legal proceedings are expected after the completion of the accused’s police custody, while security agencies continue to maintain strict vigilance along the border to curb illegal activities and safeguard national security.
