Sutapa Sikdar, the wife of late Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan, has shared a thoughtful message for Generation Z, encouraging young people to rethink the language they use in everyday conversations. While expressing admiration for Gen Z’s courage in speaking out against social and political issues, she emphasized that abusive language rooted in misogyny continues to remain a troubling part of modern communication.
Taking to the Stories section of her official Instagram account on Sunday, Sutapa posted a heartfelt note addressed to both young men and women. She made it clear that she strongly supports the current generation’s willingness to protest against injustice and challenge outdated norms. However, she pointed out that one aspect has remained unchanged across generations—the frequent use of abusive words that demean women.
In her message, Sutapa wrote that although every generation has evolved in different ways, abusive language has remained the same from the era of baby boomers to the present-day Gen Z. She observed that many Hindi abuses continue to rely on references to women’s private parts or female family members, reflecting deeply ingrained patriarchal attitudes.
Expressing disappointment over the lack of progress in this area, Sutapa remarked that she had expected the younger generation to be more imaginative and inclusive in their expression. She noted that despite advocating for equality and social justice, many young people continue to use offensive language that indirectly insults women.
Sutapa further encouraged Gen Z to examine every problematic social practice instead of focusing only on selected issues. According to her, meaningful change requires addressing all forms of discrimination, including harmful language that has become normalized in society. She stressed that if young people genuinely wish to break free from outdated systems, they must also reject everyday expressions that reinforce gender bias.
She also expressed concern that such abusive language is now being passed on to Generation Alpha, allowing old habits to continue despite changing social values. In her view, the responsibility lies with today’s youth to create a more respectful culture for future generations.
Ending her message with a touch of humor, Sutapa suggested that if people feel the need to use abusive expressions, they should at least invent new ones that do not target or degrade women. She specifically mentioned that commonly used insults involving mothers and sisters are outdated and should no longer be considered acceptable in modern society.

Her Instagram Story concluded with a friendly reminder urging everyone to “mind your language,” adding that disrespectful remarks towards women are neither progressive nor cool.
