Tripura has achieved major progress under PM JANMAN, with over 17,000 houses completed, 11,700 households electrified and 57 tribal settlements connected through telecom services, the Centre informed the Lok Sabha, highlighting improved infrastructure and socio-economic development for Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups.
Tripura has made significant progress in implementing the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM JANMAN), with over 17,000 houses completed, more than 11,700 households electrified and 57 tribal settlements brought under telecom connectivity, the Centre informed the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
Replying to a question in the House, Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Durgadas Uikey said Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the PM JANMAN mission on November 15, 2023, to accelerate the socio-economic development of 75 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) residing across 18 states and one Union Territory, including Tripura.
The mission seeks to provide basic amenities such as safe housing, clean drinking water, education, healthcare, nutrition, road and telecom connectivity, electricity for unconnected households and sustainable livelihood opportunities for PVTG communities. These objectives are being implemented through 11 interventions undertaken by nine Union ministries.
The minister laid before the Lok Sabha ministry-wise, state-wise and district-wise details of the benefits provided under PM JANMAN up to June 30, 2026, stating that the programme has contributed to improving the socio-economic conditions of PVTGs by expanding access to essential infrastructure and livelihood opportunities.
To identify eligible beneficiaries and assess infrastructure gaps in PVTG habitations, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, in collaboration with state governments and Union Territory administrations, has undertaken settlement-level data collection through the PM Gati Shakti Mobile App. The exercise is aimed at estimating the PVTG population and identifying deficiencies in basic infrastructure.
According to the data collected so far, Tripura has 282 PVTG villages comprising 1,267 habitations with 66,150 households and a total PVTG population of 2,75,454. The actual number of beneficiaries under the scheme, the minister said, depends on eligibility criteria prescribed under the guidelines of the respective implementing programmes.
Providing a progress report on PM JANMAN initiatives in Tripura up to June 30 this year, the minister said 17,210 houses have been sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), of which 17,045 have already been completed.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), roads covering 268.492 kilometres have been sanctioned, while construction of three kilometres has been completed so far.
In the health sector, six Mobile Medical Units (MMUs) have been sanctioned under the National Health Mission, and all of them are currently operational.

Under Phase II of the Poshan programme, 221 Anganwadi Centres have been sanctioned and all have been made functional. In the education sector, 32 infrastructure projects have been sanctioned under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), with one project completed so far.
The minister further informed the House that PM JANMAN envisages providing electricity connections to 12,282 households in Tripura. Of these, 11,713 households have already been electrified.

In the telecommunications sector, the Department of Telecommunications has set a target of extending mobile network connectivity to 65 PVTG habitations in the state. Network services have already been established in 57 of these settlements, marking substantial progress towards improving digital connectivity in remote tribal areas.
