Tripura signed three landmark MoUs with the National Stock Exchange to strengthen financial literacy, entrepreneurship, MSME growth, skill development and capital market access. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said the initiative will create a financially aware, skilled and investment-ready Tripura.

The Government of Tripura on Wednesday signed three landmark Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE). The agreements, signed with the State Institute of Public Administration and Rural Development (SIPARD), the Directorate of Industries & Commerce, and the Directorate of Skill Development, are expected to strengthen financial literacy, promote entrepreneurship, enhance skill development, and improve access to India’s capital markets.

Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony held at Pragna Bhavan in Agartala, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha described the initiative as a milestone in Tripura’s journey towards inclusive economic growth and financial self-reliance. He said the strategic collaboration with India’s largest stock exchange marks the beginning of a new era of economic development for the state by creating opportunities for youth, entrepreneurs, MSMEs and government institutions.

The Chief Minister said the partnership reflects Tripura’s readiness to embrace emerging economic opportunities and become an active participant in India’s rapidly expanding financial ecosystem. According to him, strengthening financial awareness and improving knowledge of capital markets will help citizens make informed financial decisions while opening new avenues for employment, entrepreneurship and investment.

Dr. Saha highlighted that the state’s economy has witnessed remarkable progress over the past few years. He said Tripura has doubled its Gross Domestic Product within six years, while the state’s per capita income has reached the national average. Building on this momentum, the government is now focusing on entrepreneurship, financial inclusion, investment promotion, digital transformation and skill development to sustain long-term economic growth.

He stressed that government officials, youth, entrepreneurs, educational institutions and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) must be equipped with greater knowledge of financial markets, investment instruments and capital market opportunities. The collaboration with the National Stock Exchange, he said, will enable these stakeholders to understand modern financial systems and leverage them for economic advancement.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on financial inclusion through initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana and the rapid expansion of digital payments, Dr. Saha said India has laid a strong foundation for financial participation. He noted that the National Stock Exchange now has an investor base of more than 13 crore, growing by nearly 26 per cent annually over the past five years, demonstrating that capital market participation has expanded well beyond metropolitan cities.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the growing employment opportunities in the Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) sector, describing it as one of the fastest-growing industries in the country. He said Tripura’s youth must be prepared to take advantage of these emerging opportunities through specialised training and industry-relevant skills.

Under the agreement between the Directorate of Skill Development and NSE, a comprehensive curriculum covering capital markets, mutual funds, insurance and investment advisory services will be jointly developed. While the National Stock Exchange will bear the programme’s financial cost, the state government will provide infrastructure and training venues. The initiative is expected to significantly improve employability among students and young professionals interested in financial services.

Dr. Saha further announced that the state government is planning to establish a foreign language school in collaboration with the Ramakrishna Mission. The proposed institution aims to prepare Tripura’s youth for employment opportunities in international financial markets and overseas industries by equipping them with language and communication skills.

The MoU signed with SIPARD will focus on creating a statewide network of certified master trainers who will conduct investor education and financial literacy programmes across Tripura. Significantly, SIPARD has become one of the first government training institutes in India to establish such a strategic partnership with the National Stock Exchange, setting a new benchmark for institutional collaboration in financial education and capacity building.

Another agreement with the Directorate of Industries & Commerce is expected to provide crucial support to MSMEs, startups and entrepreneurs by improving their understanding of capital markets and facilitating better access to financial resources. The Chief Minister observed that MSMEs remain the backbone of Tripura’s economy, particularly in sectors such as agro-processing, bamboo products, handloom, rubber manufacturing and agriculture. However, limited access to credit has remained a major challenge for many businesses.

He said the state is now witnessing unprecedented opportunities driven by enhanced connectivity with Bangladesh, improved infrastructure and regional trade initiatives. Coupled with consistent performance in business reforms and deregulation, Tripura is well-positioned to attract investment and encourage greater participation in formal financial markets.

“The time has come for the flow of capital from cities to towns and from towns to villages. It is time for Tripura to become an active participant in India’s financial growth story. By building capacity, educating entrepreneurs and encouraging public institutions to tap into capital markets, we can build a financially self-reliant and prosperous Tripura,” Dr. Saha said.

The Chief Minister reiterated that the three landmark MoUs with the National Stock Exchange will play a pivotal role in building a financially aware, skilled and future-ready Tripura while creating a vibrant investment ecosystem capable of supporting sustainable economic development for years to come.
