Congress MLA Gopal Roy urged the Tripura Government to implement a five-point employment generation plan, focusing on industrialisation, natural gas, rubber, agar, paper and handicraft industries to tackle rising unemployment, create sustainable jobs and strengthen the state’s economy.
Congress MLA Gopal Roy on Sunday urged the Tripura Government to adopt a comprehensive five-point strategy to tackle the growing unemployment crisis in the state, stressing that immediate policy intervention and industrial development are essential to create sustainable employment opportunities for the youth.
Addressing a press conference in Agartala, Roy said unemployment has emerged as one of the most pressing challenges facing Tripura and requires urgent attention from the government. He appealed to the state administration to move beyond political assurances and announce a clear and time-bound roadmap for employment generation. He also called for expediting recruitment to vacant government posts, stating that thousands of educated youths continue to wait for job opportunities.
The Congress legislator urged the government to take positive decisions in the larger interest of unemployed youths and give serious consideration to the proposals placed before it. According to Roy, a well-planned employment policy backed by industrial investment can significantly improve the state’s economic condition while reducing unemployment.
Presenting his five-point employment generation plan, Roy proposed establishing industries based on Tripura’s abundant natural gas resources. He said the state’s natural gas reserves offer immense potential for industrialisation, which could create thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities while attracting investment.
He also emphasised the need to strengthen Tripura’s rubber sector by promoting value-added industries and expanding the global market for the state’s natural rubber. Roy said the rubber industry has the potential to become a major source of employment for both rural and urban populations if supported through appropriate government initiatives.
Among his other recommendations, the Congress MLA advocated setting up a paper manufacturing industry in Tripura to utilise locally available resources and generate employment. He further proposed establishing an agar-based industry, highlighting that the state is one of the country’s important producers of agar and possesses considerable scope for value-added manufacturing.
Roy also called for the promotion of small-scale handicraft manufacturing units across rural areas. He said encouraging local artisans and entrepreneurs through financial assistance, infrastructure and market support would boost self-employment while preserving the state’s traditional crafts.
The Congress leader maintained that implementing these five proposals would not only create large-scale employment opportunities but also accelerate Tripura’s industrial growth and overall economic development. He urged the state government to act swiftly on the recommendations and formulate a comprehensive employment policy that provides meaningful livelihood opportunities for unemployed youth.

Reiterating that employment generation should remain a top priority, Roy expressed hope that the government would consider the proposals seriously and take concrete steps towards ensuring sustainable economic growth and better job prospects for the people of Tripura.
