Union Minister Pralhad Joshi has been given additional charge of the Ministry of Education following Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation. President Droupadi Murmu approved the appointment, ensuring continuity in the Education Ministry while Joshi continues to oversee the Food and Consumer Affairs portfolio.

Union Cabinet Minister Pralhad Joshi has been entrusted with the additional charge of the Ministry of Education following the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan. The appointment was formally announced on Saturday through an official communiqué issued by the office of President Droupadi Murmu, bringing immediate administrative continuity to one of the country’s key ministries.

According to the communiqué, President Droupadi Murmu accepted the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan on the advice of the Prime Minister and simultaneously assigned the additional responsibility of the Education Ministry to Pralhad Joshi. The arrangement took effect immediately, ensuring that the functioning of the ministry continues without interruption.

Pralhad Joshi, a senior member of the Union Cabinet, will continue to serve as the Union Minister for Food and Consumer Affairs while also overseeing the Ministry of Education. The additional charge reflects the government’s decision to maintain seamless administration until any further decision regarding the long-term leadership of the Education Ministry is announced.

Government officials stated that assigning dual responsibility to Joshi is intended to prevent any disruption in the implementation of ongoing educational programmes, policy initiatives, and administrative functions. The ministry plays a crucial role in implementing national education reforms, coordinating with states, and overseeing higher education and school education across the country.

The constitutional process for the transition followed the provisions under Article 75(2) of the Constitution of India, which governs the resignation and tenure of Union Ministers. By accepting Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation and assigning the additional portfolio to Pralhad Joshi simultaneously, the President ensured a smooth transition in ministerial responsibilities.

Pralhad Joshi has held several important positions in the Union government and is regarded as an experienced administrator. While continuing to lead the Ministry of Food and Consumer Affairs, he will now supervise the Education Ministry’s day-to-day functioning and key policy matters until a permanent arrangement is made.

The immediate appointment underscores the government’s emphasis on maintaining administrative stability and ensuring that ongoing educational initiatives proceed without delay. Officials indicated that the interim arrangement allows the ministry to continue its work efficiently while the government considers any future restructuring or appointment.
