Rani Mukherji revealed how a childhood autograph encounter with Aamir Khan left her heartbroken before they became co-stars in Ghulam. The actress shared the memorable incident during Rendezvous with Simi Garewal, recalling Aamir’s reaction and their later friendship in Bollywood.
Bollywood actress Rani Mukherji has fondly recalled a childhood incident involving superstar Aamir Khan that left her heartbroken long before the two became one of Hindi cinema’s memorable on-screen pairs. The actress shared the story during an appearance on the popular celebrity talk show Rendezvous with Simi Garewal, offering fans a glimpse into her early admiration for the actor.
Rani revealed that she was a huge admirer of Aamir Khan after the release of his blockbuster debut film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. Like many young fans of that era, she dreamed of meeting the actor and getting his autograph. Her opportunity came while Aamir was shooting for the film Love Love Love, co-starring Juhi Chawla.
Recalling the memorable day, Rani said she had even skipped school to visit the film set. Nervous and excited, the young girl approached Aamir with an autograph book, hoping for a warm interaction with her favourite star.
However, the experience did not unfold as she had imagined.
According to Rani, Aamir simply took the autograph book, signed it without much conversation, and handed it back. The brief interaction left the young fan feeling disappointed.
Sharing the memory, she said, “Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak had released and he was like every young girl’s dream and I went up to him, very shy. I bunked school and I went and he was like really rude to me. He just took my book and he signed and he gave it to me. So my heart broke.”
Years later, fate brought the two actors together as co-stars in the 1998 hit film Ghulam. During the shooting of the popular song Aati Kya Khandala, Rani finally told Aamir about their first meeting.
To her surprise, Aamir could not remember the incident and insisted that he had never been rude to fans seeking autographs.
Rani recalled telling him, “Aamir, do you remember once you had given an autograph to this small little girl?” When he denied ever behaving rudely, she insisted that the little girl had been her.
Aamir reportedly responded by saying that she was mistaken, maintaining that he had never been rude to children or anyone asking for an autograph.
Determined to prove her memory was genuine, Rani later brought the very same autograph book from her home and showed it to Aamir, confirming that she had indeed been the little girl who met him years earlier.
Despite the childhood disappointment, the incident eventually became a humorous and cherished memory between the two actors. Their professional relationship flourished, beginning with Ghulam in 1998.
