Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha highlighted major healthcare achievements on World Blood Donor Day, stating that patient referrals outside the state have dropped by nearly 80 percent. Addressing a blood donation programme in Agartala, he praised voluntary blood donors and emphasized expanding medical infrastructure and healthcare services.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday announced that patient referrals outside Tripura have reduced by nearly 80 percent, crediting the remarkable decline to the continuous improvement of healthcare infrastructure and medical services across the state.

The Chief Minister made the statement while inaugurating the World Blood Donor Day celebration programme at Prajna Bhawan in Agartala. The event was organized by the Tripura State Blood Transfusion Council under the Department of Health and Family Welfare to promote voluntary blood donation and recognize the contributions of regular blood donors.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Saha emphasized that the state government has been working consistently to strengthen healthcare facilities, ensuring that patients receive quality treatment within Tripura itself. He noted that significant investments in medical education, hospital infrastructure, and specialized healthcare services have helped reduce the need for patients to travel outside the state for advanced treatment.

According to the Chief Minister, Tripura currently has around 550 MBBS seats and nearly 200 postgraduate medical seats, creating greater opportunities for aspiring doctors from the state. He said these developments have contributed to building a stronger healthcare workforce capable of meeting the growing medical needs of citizens.

Dr. Saha also highlighted the steady expansion of super-specialty healthcare services across the state. He stated that advanced medical facilities are being introduced and upgraded to provide better treatment options locally, reducing dependence on hospitals outside Tripura.

The Chief Minister further stressed the government’s commitment to decentralizing healthcare services. He said the administration is focusing not only on improving healthcare facilities in Agartala but also on upgrading district and sub-divisional hospitals. This approach aims to make quality medical care accessible to people in all parts of the state, allowing patients to receive treatment closer to their homes.

Speaking about the significance of voluntary blood donation, Dr. Saha described it as one of the noblest acts of humanity. He expressed deep appreciation for all blood donors who have contributed to saving lives through their selfless service.

“Today, I attended the World Blood Donor Day celebration programme at Prajna Bhawan. I salute all the blood donors who have come forward to support this noble cause. Their selfless act of donating blood reflects the true spirit of humanity and compassion. My heartfelt gratitude to each one of them for their invaluable contribution toward saving lives and giving hope to those in need,” the Chief Minister said.

He further remarked that there can be no greater donation than blood, as a single donation has the potential to save multiple lives. Dr. Saha expressed confidence that increasing awareness about the importance of blood donation would encourage more individuals to participate in this humanitarian effort.

The programme was attended by several senior officials, including Dr. Biswajit Debbarma, Member-Secretary of the Tripura Blood Transfusion Council, Dr. Debashree Debbarma, Director of Health Services, and B.K. Roy, Chairman of the Tripura Red Cross Society. During the event, regular and top blood donors were felicitated for their outstanding contributions to society.

A notable highlight of the programme was the active participation of troops from the Assam Rifles Agartala Battalion, who voluntarily donated blood as part of the celebration. Their gesture was widely appreciated by the civil administration and attendees, reflecting the armed force’s commitment to humanitarian service beyond its security responsibilities.

Officials present at the event observed that the participation of Assam Rifles personnel demonstrated that true strength lies not only in protecting the nation but also in serving humanity through compassion and selfless action.
