Indian wrestlers delivered an impressive performance at the Ulaanbaatar Open Ranking Series in Mongolia as Manisha and Neha clinched gold medals in women’s wrestling. Sunil and Nitesh secured Greco-Roman golds, while Sumit and Neelam earned bronze, helping India strengthen its position in the international wrestling tournament.
India continued its impressive run on the international wrestling stage as Manisha and Neha secured gold medals in the women’s wrestling category, leading a strong Indian performance at the Ulaanbaatar Open Ranking Series in Mongolia. The Indian contingent collected a total of six medals across the Greco-Roman and Women’s Wrestling divisions, including four gold medals and two bronze medals.
The outstanding performances have strengthened India’s position in the overall medal standings as the prestigious ranking tournament progresses into its third day. Indian wrestlers showcased remarkable skill, determination, and tactical excellence against several top international competitors.
In the Women’s Wrestling division, Manisha emerged victorious in the 57kg category after defeating DPR Korea’s Sim Son by 3-1 in a closely contested gold medal bout. Her disciplined defensive wrestling and timely attacks helped her secure the top podium finish.
Neha added another gold medal to India’s tally in the 59kg category. She displayed exceptional composure and technique to overcome DPR Korea’s Pyol Hong by 5-3 in the final. The victory marked another significant achievement for Indian women’s wrestling on the international circuit.
India also celebrated success through Neelam, who secured a bronze medal in the 50kg category. She dominated Kazakhstan’s Maral Tangirbergenova with a convincing 10-0 technical superiority victory in the bronze medal match, underlining India’s growing depth in women’s wrestling.
The Greco-Roman wrestling squad also concluded its campaign on a highly successful note by winning three medals, including two golds and one bronze.
Sunil captured the gold medal in the 87kg category after defeating Azad Salidinov by 4-1 in the final. His disciplined performance and tactical control throughout the bout ensured a well-deserved title victory.
In the 97kg division, Nitesh delivered an attacking masterclass to defeat Nurassyl Amanaly by 13-9 in a high-scoring gold medal contest. His aggressive approach and effective scoring techniques proved decisive in securing India’s second Greco-Roman gold medal.
Meanwhile, Sumit earned a bronze medal in the 60kg category after defeating fellow Indian wrestler Sahil by 5-0 in the bronze medal match. His victory added another podium finish to India’s successful Greco-Roman campaign.
Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Sanjay Singh praised the athletes for their performances and highlighted the significance of the victories against strong international opponents.
“The performances by Manisha and Neha, alongside the three-medal showing from our Greco-Roman wrestlers, demonstrate our competitive strength at the international level. Winning gold medals against top opponents from DPR Korea and Kazakhstan reflects the quality of our preparation. This successful start provides excellent momentum for the rest of the tournament,” he said.

With six medals already secured, India will look to continue its winning momentum as the Men’s Freestyle division and the remaining Women’s Wrestling weight categories begin competition on Saturday. The strong performances in Ulaanbaatar once again underline India’s growing stature in world wrestling and provide encouragement ahead of future international competitions.
