Employees of Amarpur RD Block in Tripura’s Gomati district have demanded immediate action against several elected Gram Panchayat representatives following an alleged incident involving misconduct with the BDO and desecration of the National Emblem. Staff members have expressed security concerns and announced a protest seeking justice.

A major controversy has erupted at the Amarpur Rural Development (RD) Block under Gomati district after block employees accused a group of elected public representatives of misconduct, intimidation, and desecration of the National Emblem during an interaction with the Block Development Officer (BDO).

Expressing shock, anger, and concern over the incident, the employees of the Amarpur RD Block collectively submitted a letter to the District Magistrate and Collector of Gomati district, demanding immediate legal and administrative action against those allegedly involved.

According to the staff members, the incident took place during a meeting attended by public representatives, including Pradhans and Upa-Pradhans from 10 Gram Panchayats. The meeting was convened to discuss various local development issues and administrative matters concerning their respective areas.

However, the discussion reportedly turned heated inside the chamber of the Block Development Officer. Employees alleged that some of the representatives behaved aggressively and repeatedly struck the BDO’s official desk in an attempt to intimidate the officer while official discussions were underway.

The situation allegedly escalated further when one of the individuals involved reportedly threw the Ashoka Stambha, India’s National Emblem, from the official desk. The employees described the act as a serious insult to a national symbol and termed it a grave violation of administrative decorum.

In their complaint, the staff further alleged that the individual also hurled a glass and tea cups towards the BDO while he was seated in his office chamber. The employees characterized the incident as a direct attack on a public servant performing official duties and expressed concern over what they called a growing atmosphere of fear within the workplace.

“The incident represents not only criminal intimidation but also a serious assault on the integrity of the administrative system,” the employees stated in their letter. They emphasized that such acts create insecurity among government employees and adversely affect the delivery of public services at the grassroots level.

The staff members also informed the district administration that many employees are currently apprehensive about attending office due to concerns regarding their personal safety. They asserted that normal office functioning can be restored only after adequate security arrangements are made and visible action is taken against those responsible.

Demanding strict legal measures, the employees urged the district administration to ensure accountability and restore confidence among government workers.

Meanwhile, as a mark of protest against the alleged incident, all employees of the Amarpur RD Block have decided to stage a demonstration in front of the block office entrance gate on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. onwards. The protest aims to draw attention to their demands for workplace security, justice, and immediate action against the accused individuals.
