Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar praised Tripura’s success under the PM SVANidhi Scheme, highlighting over 9,300 loans sanctioned and nearly Rs 15 crore disbursed to street vendors. The initiative has strengthened financial inclusion, empowered urban livelihoods, and supported economic self-reliance across the state.

Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs and Power, Manohar Lal Khattar, on Sunday lauded Tripura’s achievements under the Prime Minister Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) Scheme, stating that the initiative has emerged as a major source of financial support for thousands of street vendors across the state.

Addressing the progress made under the flagship central scheme, Khattar said that more than 9,300 loans have been sanctioned in Tripura, with financial assistance amounting to nearly Rs 15 crore disbursed among beneficiaries. He described the programme as a significant step towards strengthening livelihoods, promoting self-reliance, and ensuring financial inclusion among the urban poor.

The Union Minister noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the PM SVANidhi Scheme in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic to provide relief and economic support to street vendors whose livelihoods were severely affected by lockdowns and disruptions in economic activity. The scheme offers collateral-free working capital loans and facilitates access to formal banking services for small vendors.

“Recognising the hard work and contribution of street vendors, the Prime Minister launched the PM SVANidhi Scheme to strengthen the livelihoods of the urban poor. The initiative aims not only to provide financial assistance but also to ensure dignity, confidence and social recognition for beneficiaries,” Khattar said.

According to official figures, the scheme has witnessed consistent implementation across Tripura, enabling thousands of vendors to establish stronger financial foundations. Many beneficiaries have gained access to institutional credit for the first time, allowing them to invest in their businesses, increase inventory, and improve their earning capacity.

Khattar also highlighted the broader impact of the programme in the North-Eastern region. He said that more than 2.59 lakh loans worth over Rs 430 crore have been distributed among street vendors across the region. Tripura has played a notable role in this achievement, reflecting the state government’s efforts in effectively implementing the scheme and reaching eligible beneficiaries.

At the national level, the PM SVANidhi Scheme has delivered substantial results since its launch. The Minister informed that over 75.5 lakh street vendors have benefited from the initiative during the past six years. More than 1.12 crore collateral-free loans have been sanctioned nationwide, while over Rs 17,800 crore has been disbursed to support small entrepreneurs and vendors.

He emphasized that the scheme has significantly contributed to bringing lakhs of street vendors into the formal banking network, promoting financial literacy, credit accessibility, and economic empowerment. The programme has also encouraged digital transactions and enhanced the financial credibility of beneficiaries.
