Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting tribal rights and dignity through inclusive development, scientific planning and technology-driven initiatives during the inauguration of Janjatiya Garima Utsav 2026 at Pragya Bhavan in Agartala.

Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu on Thursday reiterated the state government’s commitment to safeguarding the rights, identity and dignity of tribal communities through scientific planning, inclusive governance and the extensive use of technology.

Addressing the inaugural programme of “Janjatiya Garima Utsav 2026 – Birsa Lives in New Bharat Week” at Pragya Bhavan in Agartala, the Governor said that tribal welfare remains one of the key priorities of the government. He stressed that sustainable development and technological innovation are essential for ensuring equal opportunities and social justice for indigenous communities across the state.

During the programme, the Governor launched the Northeast region’s first Digital Forest Rights Act (FRA) Atlas, developed with technical support from the Tripura Space Application Centre. He also inaugurated the Tribal Development Atlas and an FRA Atlas booklet published by the Tribal Welfare Department.

Calling the initiative a landmark step, Governor Nallu said the event was not merely commemorative but reflected the continuing relevance of Birsa Munda’s ideals concerning tribal rights, forest protection and indigenous identity in the modern era. He stated that Tripura has emerged as a significant example in the implementation of the Forest Rights Act by recognising a large number of individual forest rights claims.

The Governor observed that technology-based governance tools like the Digital FRA Atlas would improve transparency, accessibility and outreach for forest-dwelling communities, particularly those residing in remote tribal regions. He further noted that such initiatives would strengthen policy planning and ensure that welfare schemes reach beneficiaries more effectively.

Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, who also addressed the gathering, highlighted the department’s continuous efforts towards the social and economic development of tribal communities. He said special attention is being given to education, skill development and infrastructure improvement in remote tribal areas to empower indigenous youth and improve living standards.

Debbarma later shared that he was honoured to participate in the “Janjatiya Garima Utsav 2026” organised by the Tribal Welfare Department. He expressed happiness over the enthusiastic participation of students, youth representatives and members of tribal communities in the programme dedicated to preserving indigenous heritage, rights and dignity.

The minister described the launch of the Forest Rights Act Atlas as an important initiative aimed at strengthening inclusive development and ensuring better outreach to forest-dwelling families under the vision of “Sabse Door, Sabse Pehle – Jan Bhagidari Abhiyan.”
