Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi seeking support for AIIMS, railway expansion, Vande Bharat connectivity, PMAY housing, sports infrastructure, tourism growth, dairy development, and enhanced welfare initiatives to accelerate the northeastern state’s overall progress and connectivity.
A wide range of development proposals aimed at strengthening infrastructure, healthcare, connectivity and welfare services in Tripura came under discussion on Tuesday as Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
During the high-level meeting, the Chief Minister placed several key demands before the Centre, seeking additional support for projects that could significantly transform the northeastern state’s economic and social landscape in the coming years. Among the most important proposals was the establishment of an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Tripura, which Dr. Saha described as a major requirement for improving advanced healthcare services and medical education in the state.
According to officials familiar with the discussions, the Chief Minister stressed that an AIIMS facility would not only benefit the people of Tripura but would also strengthen healthcare accessibility for residents of neighbouring northeastern regions. The proposal comes at a time when the state government is focusing heavily on expanding medical infrastructure and specialist treatment facilities.
Connectivity and transportation projects also featured prominently during the meeting. Dr. Saha urged the Prime Minister to support the expansion of the national highway stretch connecting Kamalpur and Shantirbazar. The proposed highway expansion is expected to improve inter-district road communication, facilitate faster movement of goods and passengers, and strengthen economic activities across the state.
Railway development was another major issue raised during the discussions. The Chief Minister sought enhanced railway infrastructure, including double railway tracks and the introduction of a Vande Bharat Express service connecting Tripura with other parts of the country. Officials believe that such initiatives would boost regional trade, tourism and passenger convenience while strengthening Tripura’s integration with the national transportation network.
Sources said the talks also covered employment generation in the technology sector, tourism development and improvement of sports infrastructure. The state government reportedly emphasised the need for greater investment in emerging sectors to create employment opportunities for the youth and diversify Tripura’s economic base.
Apart from infrastructure and connectivity, Dr. Saha sought additional central assistance for the dairy sector. The Chief Minister highlighted the importance of dairy-based economic activities in rural areas and stressed that improved support from the Centre could help enhance production capacity and strengthen rural livelihoods.
Housing and welfare schemes formed another important part of the meeting. Dr. Saha requested additional houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) to benefit eligible families in the state. He also called for an increase in the number of Eklavya Model Residential Schools to improve educational opportunities for tribal students.
The issue of welfare support for the Bru community was also raised during the discussions. The Chief Minister sought enhanced ration card coverage for Bru families under government welfare schemes. In addition, the state government requested increased allocation of natural gas for Tripura to support industrial growth and domestic requirements.

After the meeting, Dr. Saha praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and credited several flagship central schemes for bringing transformative changes across the country. He said initiatives such as Digital India, Swachh Bharat Mission, Ayushman Bharat and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana had improved the lives of millions of citizens and contributed significantly towards building an “Atmanirbhar Bharat.”
The Chief Minister further stated that India’s infrastructure sector had witnessed remarkable progress under the Prime Minister’s leadership and noted that the country’s international standing had strengthened considerably in recent years.
Expressing optimism over Tripura’s future development, Dr. Saha said coordinated efforts between the Centre and the state government would continue to accelerate welfare initiatives and economic growth.
“I am hopeful that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the overall development and public welfare of the state, along with the coordinated efforts of the Centre and the State, will become more dynamic in the coming days,” the Chief Minister said.
Dr. Saha also congratulated the Prime Minister on the party’s major electoral success in West Bengal, describing the victory as a reflection of public confidence in developmental and welfare-oriented politics.
