A tragic lightning strike claimed the lives of two siblings in the Nabincherra area under Pecharthal police station on Saturday after severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall lashed the region.
The deceased were identified as Sumanta Chakma (30) and his younger sister Mina Chakma (27). The heartbreaking incident occurred during the afternoon when intense rain and lightning spread across several parts of the area, creating panic among local residents.
According to family members and local sources, the siblings were inside their house when a sudden lightning strike hit the structure. The impact critically injured both Sumanta and Mina, leaving family members shocked and helpless amid the ongoing storm.
Hearing cries for help, relatives and nearby residents rushed to the spot and immediately shifted the injured brother and sister to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment. However, despite all efforts, the attending doctors declared both of them dead on arrival.
The sudden deaths of the two siblings have cast a deep shadow of grief over the entire locality. Residents described the incident as one of the most painful tragedies witnessed in the area in recent times. Neighbours and well-wishers gathered at the family residence after news of the deaths spread, offering condolences and support to the bereaved family.
