Tripura government plans to strengthen HIV/AIDS healthcare services by expanding ART and FIART centres, improving treatment facilities at district and block-level hospitals, and allocating additional state funds to ensure uninterrupted patient care across the state.

The Tripura government has initiated fresh measures to strengthen healthcare and treatment services for HIV/AIDS patients across the state, senior officials said on Monday. The move comes as the Health Department focuses on expanding treatment facilities and improving access to specialised care at district and block-level health institutions.

A high-level review meeting was held at the Civil Secretariat in Agartala to assess ongoing HIV/AIDS-related healthcare programmes and discuss future strategies aimed at enhancing patient services. The meeting was chaired by Health Secretary Kiran Gitte and attended by senior officials from the Health Department, the National Health Mission and various healthcare institutions.

Officials said the department is committed to ensuring uninterrupted treatment and proper healthcare support for HIV/AIDS patients at district hospitals, sub-divisional hospitals and block-level medical centres throughout the state. Discussions during the meeting focused on improving infrastructure, increasing accessibility to treatment and strengthening patient monitoring systems.

Addressing the officials, Gitte stated that healthcare services at district hospitals, First Referral Units (FRUs) and Community Health Centres (CHCs) have improved considerably over the past few years. He stressed the need for coordinated efforts among all wings of the Health Department to further expand treatment and support systems for HIV-positive patients in Tripura.

According to officials, the Health Secretary also assured that the state government would allocate additional financial resources for HIV/AIDS-related programmes apart from the assistance already provided by the Union Health Ministry. The funding is expected to support new healthcare proposals and improve service delivery mechanisms across the state.

The meeting also discussed plans to establish additional Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) and Facility Integrated ART (FIART) centres in different healthcare institutions to improve patient access to treatment. Officials believe the expansion of these centres will help reduce the burden on existing facilities and ensure timely medical support for patients in remote areas.

Director of Health Services Dr Debasree Debbarma urged officials to take all necessary measures to prevent any lapse in healthcare delivery for HIV/AIDS patients. She emphasised the importance of maintaining continuous medical support and ensuring effective implementation of healthcare programmes.
