PM Modi received Sweden’s highest civilian honour, the Royal Order of the Polar Star Commander Grand Cross, as NDA leaders hailed the recognition as a symbol of India’s rising global influence and diplomatic strength under Modi’s leadership.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred Sweden’s highest civilian honour, the “Royal Order of the Polar Star” Commander Grand Cross, during his official visit to Sweden, drawing widespread praise from leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and senior members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The prestigious recognition was presented to the Indian Prime Minister by Crown Princess Victoria, Crown Princess of Sweden at a ceremonial event held at the County Governor’s residence in the presence of Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson. The honour is regarded as Sweden’s highest recognition that can be awarded to a Head of Government.

The award marks the 31st international honour received by Prime Minister Modi during his tenure, further highlighting India’s expanding diplomatic influence and growing role in international affairs. Leaders from across the NDA alliance described the honour as a proud moment not only for the Prime Minister but also for the entire nation.

Senior BJP leader Syed Shahnawaz Hussain said Prime Minister Modi has emerged as a globally respected leader who is viewed as a source of hope during international crises and challenges.

He stated that countries around the world increasingly look towards Prime Minister Modi’s leadership during difficult times and added that the honour reflects the respect earned by India on the global stage. According to Hussain, the recognition belongs not just to the Prime Minister personally but to every citizen of the country.

BJP spokesperson R. P. Singh described the honour as a significant reflection of India’s rising stature in world affairs. He said the international recognition demonstrates that Prime Minister Modi’s initiatives related to peace, diplomacy, and global cooperation are receiving acknowledgment from nations across the world.

Singh further pointed out that receiving 31 international honours is a rare achievement for any world leader and signifies India’s increasing influence in global politics and diplomacy.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak congratulated the Prime Minister on receiving the prestigious Swedish honour and termed it a proud achievement for the nation.

Janata Dal (United) Chief Spokesperson Neeraj Kumar also welcomed the recognition and said the honour had brought pride and self-respect to every Indian citizen. He remarked that Prime Minister Modi represents the democratic aspirations of 140 crore Indians and that his growing international recognition reflects India’s strengthening image across the globe.

Kumar added that the honour transcends barriers of religion, caste, and political differences, as it symbolises recognition for the entire nation and its people.

According to the Office of the Swedish Prime Minister, the decision to confer the “Royal Order of the Polar Star” Commander Grand Cross on Prime Minister Modi was taken by Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf.

The Order of the Polar Star was instituted in 1748 and is awarded to individuals for exceptional personal efforts made for Sweden or Swedish interests. Over the years, the honour has been conferred upon distinguished international leaders and dignitaries for their contributions to diplomacy, international relations, and cooperation.

Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Sweden focused on strengthening bilateral ties, enhancing economic cooperation, and deepening collaboration in sectors including technology, sustainability, green energy, innovation, and trade.

Political observers believe the honour reflects Sweden’s recognition of India’s growing importance in global diplomacy and strategic partnerships. It also comes at a time when India continues to strengthen its engagement with European nations on economic development, climate initiatives, and geopolitical cooperation.
