Punjab State Election Commission has declared to hold elections for 105 local bodies, including eight Municipal Corporations, 76 Municipal Councils and 21 Nagar Panchayats in the State on May 26th. The counting of votes will take place on May 29.
State Election Commissioner Raj Kamal Chaudhari, while announcing the schedule during a press conference at Chandigarh today, said that with the announcement of the Election Schedule, the Model Code of Conduct has come into force with immediate effect in the jurisdiction of all the Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats where the elections are going to be held. It will remain in force till the completion of the electoral process.
The nomination process for candidates contesting the elections would begin on May 13 and continue till May 16. Scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on May 18, while the last date for withdrawal of nominations has been fixed as May 19. The Commission has made all the arrangements to conduct the elections in a fair, free and peaceful manner.
