The swearing-in of newly elected BJP government in West Bengal will take place at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata on Saturday, on the occasion of Rabindra Jayanti. State BJP president, Shamik Bhattacharya, met with senior officials at the state secretariat Nabanna yesterday to discuss preparations for the ceremony and measures to curb post-poll violence.

The meeting was attended by BJP’s national general secretary and state observer Sunil Bansal, along with party leaders Soumitra Khan and Jyotirmoy Singh Mahato. Mr Bhattacharya later told reporters that the party’s newly elected legislators will meet tomorrow to choose their parliamentary leader.

The swearing-in ceremony, scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday, may see the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and several Chief Ministers from BJP-ruled states. Mr Bhattacharya emphasised that if Mamata Banerjee does not resign as Chief Minister, the event will proceed strictly according to constitutional norms.

Meanwhile, police are tightening security around the ceremony. Nearly 4,000 personnel will be deployed, supported by central forces and Quick Response Teams. Surveillance will also be conducted from nearby high-rise buildings to ensure safety.
