The Opposition alliance of CPM and Congress is likely to launch joint campaigns for the party candidates fielded against the ruling BJP. A broad strategy is also being chalked out in phase-wise, indicated CPM state unit secretary Jitendra Choudhury who went to meet TPCC president Birajit Sinha at his residence to discuss the poll matters on Friday.

Visibly happy at the end of the contentious seat sharing standoff between the two -which almost brought down the alliance- Choudhury said the first phase ‘is over’  and now the second phase for joint poll campaign.

“We are determined to oust the BJP and restore the democracy in the state”, he said.

TPCC president Birajit Sinha tried to put up a brave face when asked about the resentment and simmering anger among the party workers and supporters for bowing down under the CPM’s pressure and depriving the party candidates to fight it out in the elections.

“ Disents and dissatisfactions will also be there in  a political party , especially when the party is joining a massive political exercise like that of elections. But what all should understand that in politics one should assess the situation and devise its strategies in a prudent manner”, Sinha said.

On the alliance with the Left Front Sinha said, “Now we are sailing in the same boat and our future is linked. If the boat sinks, we all go down together. But, those wo will let us down will also face the consequences”. He then called upon the party workers and supporters to keep aside their factionalism and resentment and join hands with the CPM to give a united fight against the BJP—which, according to Sinha, was an issue of greater concern.
