In a last minute attempt to save the opposition alliance Left Front has decided to withdraw its candidates from 13 seats where it put up candidates when the seat sharing understanding with Congress went awry.
The CPM, main partner of the Left Front while in a statement said that it would withdraw its candidates, the party also hoped that Congress would also take out its nominees from the three seats where the Marxists had fielded its nominees. The CPM had earlier gave 13 seats to the Congress ,. But Congress unhappy with only 13 seats joined the fray in 16 seats.
According to the CPM statement, the party would contest in 47 seats while Congress would fight in the remaining 13 seats.
Till filing the reports the response from the Congress was not available but it is highly likely that the Congress would also withdraw its candidate.
In the meantime, TIPRA Motha said that it would not go for any alliance with any party and fight the polls on its own.
The statement came following the indication given by CPM state unit secretary Jitendra Choudhury that the TIPRA was willing to join the alliance to strengthen the opposition.
