A pall of grief has descended over Tripura’s legal and political circles following the sudden demise of senior advocate Sankar Bhattacharya, who passed away on Saturday after suffering a cardiac arrest. His untimely death has left a deep void in the state’s legal fraternity and among those associated with public service and human rights advocacy.

Bhattacharya, a respected member of the legal community at the Tripura High Court, was widely known for his commitment to justice and his active involvement in socio-legal issues. Over the years, he built a reputation as a dedicated advocate who worked tirelessly for the betterment of society.

On Sunday, his mortal remains were brought to the Congress Bhavan in Agartala, where leaders and members of the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee gathered to pay their final respects. Floral tributes were offered in a solemn ceremony marked by emotion and remembrance.

Among those present were PCC president Ashish Kumar Saha and MLA Sudip Roy Barman, along with several senior party leaders and well-wishers. They remembered Bhattacharya not only as a skilled legal professional but also as a compassionate individual deeply committed to human rights.

Bhattacharya was an active member of the Legal and Human Rights Department of the Congress in Tripura. Expressing profound sorrow, Ashish Kumar Saha stated that both the legal fraternity and the party have lost a devoted colleague whose contributions will be remembered for years to come.
