India delivered a commanding performance at the Spanish Para Badminton International 2026 – Level 1 tournament held in Toledo, with Paralympic champion Pramod Bhagat leading the charge. The Indian contingent showcased depth, resilience, and world-class skill, securing multiple podium finishes across categories, further strengthening the nation’s growing stature in para badminton on the global stage.

Bhagat emerged as the standout performer of the tournament, clinching one gold medal and two silvers in a highly competitive field. His most notable triumph came in the Mixed Doubles SL3-SU5 category, where he partnered with Manisha Ramdass. The duo displayed exceptional coordination and composure to defeat fellow Indians Nitesh Kumar and Thulasimathi Murugesan in straight games. They secured the first set 21-15 and edged a tense second set 24-22, sealing the title in a gripping 30-minute clash.

In the Men’s Singles SL3 final, Bhagat faced a tough challenge against compatriot Nitesh Kumar. Despite a determined effort, Bhagat had to settle for silver after losing 10-21, 17-21. The match highlighted the high level of competition within the Indian squad itself, reflecting the country’s dominance in the category.

Bhagat’s second silver came in the Men’s Doubles SL3-SU5 event, where he teamed up with Sukant Kadam. The pair battled hard against the Indian duo of Naveen Sivakumar and Surya Kant Yadav. After losing the opening set 16-21, Bhagat and Kadam made a strong comeback to win the second set 21-12. However, they fell short in the decider, losing 15-21 and finishing with a silver medal.

Speaking after his impressive campaign, Bhagat expressed satisfaction with his performance. He noted that competing against fellow Indian players added intensity to the matches and praised the strong partnership he shares with Ramdass in mixed doubles. He also emphasized that the results have boosted his confidence ahead of upcoming international tournaments.

India’s overall campaign in Toledo was marked by several remarkable achievements. Nitesh Kumar clinched gold in Men’s Singles SL3, while Manasi Joshi and Thulasimathi Murugesan secured gold in Women’s Doubles SL3-SU5.
