Gunfire at a contractor’s house in Bishalgarh sparks panic after Rs 50 lakh extortion threat. Attack near police station raises security concerns in Tripura as residents demand strict action against criminals and stronger law enforcement measures.
Fear and tension gripped residents of Bishalgarh on Friday night after unidentified assailants allegedly opened fire inside a contractor’s residence in the Netajinagar area, triggering widespread panic and raising serious questions about public safety and law enforcement effectiveness in the region.
According to preliminary reports, the target of the attack was local contractor Anup Saha, who had reportedly received a threatening phone call earlier in the day demanding an extortion amount of Rs 50 lakh. Sources close to the family claimed that the caller warned of severe consequences if the money was not paid immediately. When Saha allegedly refused to comply with the demand, the attackers reportedly carried out the violent act later the same night.
The shocking incident took place barely 300 meters away from Bishalgarh Police Station, intensifying concerns among residents who questioned how such a brazen attack could occur so close to a police establishment. Witnesses said the attackers arrived in a motorized rickshaw and fired multiple rounds before fleeing the scene. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported, but the sound of gunfire created panic across the neighborhood.
Family members of the contractor have alleged that the main accused is a notorious criminal identified as Ranbir, who, according to them, has been involved in multiple criminal activities in the past. They claimed that Ranbir and his associates are currently absconding and have been named in several cases, including theft, robbery, and bomb-related incidents.
Residents of the Netajinagar area expressed strong anger over what they described as a rising wave of criminal activities in Tripura, particularly in Bishalgarh. Locals alleged that despite repeated complaints and the accused’s alleged involvement in multiple crimes, no strict action had been taken against him so far. Some residents even questioned whether such a bold attack could have taken place without the support of influential individuals, raising suspicions of possible political or powerful backing.
Several witnesses also stated that the entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed in nearby houses and shops. Police officials have confirmed that the footage is being reviewed and an investigation has been formally launched. However, the delay in arrests has further intensified fear among residents, many of whom are now demanding immediate and strong action against those responsible.
The attack has left families in the area deeply shaken, with many residents saying they no longer feel safe even inside their own homes. Community members are now urging the administration to increase police patrolling, strengthen surveillance, and take firm steps to curb criminal activities before the situation worsens further.

As the investigation continues, the incident has once again sparked a larger debate about law enforcement efficiency, rising extortion threats, and public safety in smaller towns. Residents of Bishalgarh are now anxiously waiting for swift action, hoping that the authorities will restore confidence and ensure that such violent incidents do not happen again.
