Gomati district and Kumarghat BMMU of Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission win top PMFME awards in Agartala for outstanding support to SHG-led micro food enterprises, highlighting Tripura’s growing women entrepreneurship and rural livelihood transformation initiatives.
In a recognition of grassroots entrepreneurship and rural economic empowerment, the Gomati district unit and Kumarghat Block Mission Management Unit (BMMU) of the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) were honoured as the Best Performing District and Best Performing Block respectively under the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises Scheme (PMFME).
The awards were presented during the launch of the Tripura Women Entrepreneurship Policy and a state-level programme on the PMFME scheme held at Prajna Bhavan in Agartala on Thursday.
The Gomati district unit received the prestigious Best Performing TRLM District Award from the Industries & Commerce Department of the Government of Tripura for its outstanding implementation of the PMFME scheme during the financial year 2025–26. Officials highlighted that the district demonstrated remarkable performance in supporting Self Help Group (SHG) members engaged in micro food processing enterprises.
According to TRLM officials, Gomati district recorded the highest number of sanctioned Seed Capital cases during the financial year. A total of 692 SHG members received financial support under the scheme, enabling them to expand micro food enterprises and strengthen rural livelihoods. The achievement reflects the district administration’s focused efforts to promote entrepreneurship among rural women and encourage value addition in food processing activities.
Meanwhile, the Kumarghat BMMU was recognised as the Best Performing TRLM Block for its effective implementation of the PMFME scheme. The recognition was presented by the Industries and Commerce Department under the flagship initiative of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India.
The PMFME scheme aims to support small and micro food processing units through financial assistance, training, and infrastructure development, with a strong focus on empowering Self Help Groups, farmer producer organisations, and individual entrepreneurs.
Speaking at the programme, Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma congratulated the award-winning teams and praised the growing participation of women in rural entrepreneurship initiatives across the state. She emphasized that empowering SHGs through schemes like PMFME is playing a crucial role in strengthening Tripura’s rural economy and generating sustainable livelihoods.
The event was also attended by Industries and Commerce Secretary Kiran Gitte along with senior government officials and representatives of TRLM.

TRLM authorities stated that the awards highlight the dedication of field-level teams and the entrepreneurial spirit of SHG members who are driving the growth of micro food processing enterprises in rural Tripura. Officials expressed confidence that such initiatives will continue to create new economic opportunities and strengthen women-led livelihood models across the state.
