Tripura Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy highlights ₹500 crore women-led small savings during International Women’s Day 2026 celebration in Agartala, emphasizing women empowerment, financial inclusion, and the state government’s commitment to strengthening economic independence and security for women.

Marking the celebration of International Women’s Day 2026, Tripura Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy on Tuesday highlighted the remarkable contribution of women in strengthening the state’s small savings movement, revealing that women-led initiatives have generated nearly ₹500 crore in small savings transactions across Tripura.

The minister made the announcement while inaugurating the state-level International Women’s Day 2026 celebrations at Pragna Bhavan. The event, titled “Felicitation and Cultural Program to Celebrate International Women’s Day 2026,” was jointly organized by the Directorate of Small Savings, Group Insurance and Institutional Finance and the Society of Social Audit Unit, Tripura.

Speaking at the function, Roy emphasized the importance of women’s participation in economic development and financial inclusion. He noted that the government at both the national and state levels has been prioritizing policies aimed at empowering women and ensuring their safety and financial independence.

Referring to initiatives under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Finance Minister said the central government has been consistently working to ensure greater security and economic opportunities for women. “One of the major mottos of the government is women empowerment. Following the same vision, the state government is also implementing several initiatives to make women self-reliant,” he said.

Roy highlighted that women in Tripura have played a decisive role in expanding the small savings network. According to him, their active involvement as agents and participants in savings schemes has significantly boosted public participation in financial instruments designed to promote long-term savings and financial discipline.

“Women across the state are actively contributing to small savings schemes, and their efforts have resulted in transactions worth nearly ₹500 crore. This reflects not only their financial awareness but also their determination to become economically independent,” the minister stated.

He further added that the state government is taking additional steps to popularize small savings programs, while simultaneously implementing welfare schemes that help women build sustainable livelihoods. These efforts, he said, are aimed at ensuring financial security and encouraging women to participate more actively in the formal economy.

The celebration also included the felicitation of women achievers from different sectors, highlighting their contributions to society and the economy. Among those honored was an Agartala-based woman auto driver who was recognized for breaking barriers in a traditionally male-dominated profession. Several small savings agents were also felicitated for their outstanding contribution to the state’s financial inclusion efforts.

Welcoming the participants, Rakhi Biswas, Director of Institutional Finance, praised the growing involvement of women in financial activities and emphasized the importance of strengthening grassroots participation in savings schemes.

Finance Secretary Apurba Roy also addressed the gathering and highlighted the significance of community-driven financial initiatives. The program was attended by several dignitaries, including Aparna Dey, Associate Professor of Kamalpur Degree College, and Amelia Reang, Joint Director of the department.
