All England Open Championships: Lakshya Sen to play title clash in Birmingham today

Must Read

In All England Open Badminton Championships, India’s star shuttler Lakshya Sen has powered his way into the men’s singles final, keeping India’s hopes high for a historic title clash in Birmingham this evening.

The 24-year-old defeated Canada’s Victor Lai in a thrilling semifinal clash 21-16, 18-21, 21-15 last evening. Battling painful blisters and severe cramps, Lakshya showed incredible grit and determination in a gruelling one-hour and 37-minute contest to secure the victory.

Earlier, Lakshya had also impressed in the quarterfinals, beating China’s Li Shifeng 21-13, 21-16.

Lakshya will now face Lin Chun-yi of Chinese Taipei in the final this evening at 5 PM. The match will be a huge opportunity for the Indian star to script history.

If he wins, Lakshya will end India’s 25-year wait for the prestigious All England title. So far, only two Indians have achieved this feat, Prakash Padukone in 1980 and Pullela Gopichand in 2001.

This will also be Lakshya’s second All England final, after finishing runner-up in 2022.

All eyes will now be on Birmingham as the young star looks to bring the prestigious All England crown back to India and add his name alongside the legends of Indian badminton.
