At forward positions and high-altitude posts, soldiers and air warriors marked the festival with traditional rituals, cultural programmes, and the exchange of sweets. Despite demanding operational responsibilities, the celebrations reflected the enduring spirit of camaraderie and morale that defines India’s defence forces.
At a forward base under the Eastern Air Command of the Indian Air Force, Air Marshal I.S. Walia, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, joined personnel in celebrating Holi. The visit combined festive greetings with a comprehensive review of operational preparedness. By interacting with air warriors and personnel from sister services, the senior commander reinforced the message that celebration and readiness go hand in hand. Sweets were shared, and troops exchanged colours, symbolising unity and resilience amid duty.
The high-altitude frontier witnessed equally vibrant scenes. Troops of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) stationed near the breathtaking Pangong Lake, at an altitude of approximately 14,300 feet, celebrated Holi amid snow-clad surroundings. The ITBP shared glimpses of the celebrations, highlighting how personnel marked the festival alongside residents of nearby vibrant villages. Local children presented cultural performances that added warmth and colour to the icy landscape, turning the frozen expanse into a scene of joy and community bonding.
Earlier, Holi was also celebrated at the ITBP’s Force Headquarters, where senior officers extended greetings to all ranks. The occasion reflected the force’s internal cohesion and its emphasis on unity and inclusiveness. Festivities at headquarters included traditional observances and interactive gatherings, reinforcing bonds among officers and personnel.
Meanwhile, the Indian Army extended heartfelt Holi greetings to citizens across the nation. General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Army Staff, conveyed his wishes on behalf of all ranks, emphasising the festival’s message of harmony and collective strength. The gesture symbolised the Army’s connection with the civilian population it serves and protects.
Across services, the celebrations carried a deeper significance. For troops deployed in remote and often hostile environments, festivals provide a vital emotional anchor.
