India sets up a special control room in New Delhi as the West Asia conflict escalates following US-Israel strikes on Iran. The government issues emergency helplines and intensifies diplomatic outreach to safeguard Indian citizens across Gulf nations.

India has established a special control room in the national capital as tensions in West Asia spiral following coordinated US-Israel airstrikes on Iran that reportedly killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The escalating conflict has triggered retaliatory missile and drone strikes by Tehran across several Gulf nations, raising serious concerns over regional stability and the safety of Indian nationals.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed on Wednesday that the control room has been set up in New Delhi to provide assistance and real-time information to Indian citizens affected by the intensifying crisis. The facility will operate daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. (Indian Standard Time). Citizens can reach the toll-free number 1800118797 or landlines +91-11-23012113, +91-11-23014104, and +91-11-23017905 for emergency support.

In addition to the central control room, Indian embassies across key countries in the region—including Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Israel, and the United Arab Emirates—have activated dedicated emergency contact channels. The government has urged Indians residing in these nations to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow local advisories.

The latest flare-up began after US forces, in coordination with Israel, conducted airstrikes in Iran on February 28. The strikes marked a dramatic escalation in hostilities and were followed by a wave of Iranian retaliation targeting strategic installations across Gulf states. Missiles and drones were intercepted over Kuwait, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates, prompting temporary airspace closures and heightened military alert. Casualties have been reported on both military and civilian sides, although exact figures remain unclear.

The confrontation has rapidly evolved into one of the most intense stand-offs between Washington and Tehran in decades. US naval operations in the Gulf have intensified, signaling a prolonged phase of military engagement. The ripple effects are being felt across energy markets and global diplomatic corridors, with several nations calling for immediate de-escalation.

In India, the situation has been closely monitored at the highest levels. The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), chaired by Narendra Modi, convened an emergency meeting earlier this week. The committee was briefed on the February 28 airstrikes and the subsequent escalation across the Middle East, particularly the risks posed to the large Indian expatriate community in the region.

According to an official statement, the CCS expressed “serious concern” regarding the safety and security of Indian nationals, many of whom work in critical sectors such as healthcare, construction, energy, and services across Gulf countries.

Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s consistent position advocating peace and dialogue. Addressing the developments, he stated that India supports the resolution of disputes through diplomacy and remains committed to working closely with all countries in the region to ensure the safety of its citizens.

“The current situation in West Asia is a matter of deep concern for us,” the Prime Minister said. “India has always called for maintaining peace and stability. We will continue our efforts to safeguard our nationals and contribute constructively toward regional stability.”

As tensions remain high and global attention focuses on the unfolding crisis, India’s swift establishment of a control room underscores the government’s proactive approach to citizen safety amid one of the most volatile geopolitical confrontations in recent history.
