BJP Tripura president Rajib Bhattacharjee accuses Tipra Motha of threats during Takarjala rally as 90 voters join BJP. Claims Rs 3,450 crore TTAADC funding and highlights development push under PM Narendra Modi amid rising political tensions.

The political temperature in Tripura’s tribal belt intensified on Sunday after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organised a joining rally at Lamprai market under the Takarjala Assembly constituency, despite what party leaders described as threats and intimidation attempts.

Addressing the media, Rajib Bhattacharjee, President of the Bharatiya Janata Party Tripura Pradesh unit and Rajya Sabha MP, accused the Tipra Motha Party of trying to disrupt the party’s joining programme in the area governed by the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).

According to Bhattacharjee, several families who had initially expressed willingness to join the BJP were allegedly pressured at the last moment. “A lot of people were supposed to join our party in today’s rally, but in the face of threat and intimidation they had to change their mind at the eleventh hour. Despite so much effort to terrorise our workers and sympathisers, 90 voters from 25 families joined our party,” he said.

‘Attack Us, Not the Innocent’: Rajib’s Challenge

Taking a direct swipe at Tipra Motha’s leadership, Bhattacharjee alleged that the party’s call for “Thansa,” which signifies unity among indigenous communities, was being politically misused. He claimed that ordinary people wishing to align with the BJP were being targeted unfairly.

“If you want to stop us, attack us who are working in the field as part of our electoral campaign. Poor and innocent people should not pay the penalty for exercising their democratic choice,” he asserted.

Bhattacharjee further alleged that the rival party was apprehensive about BJP’s outreach campaign exposing administrative shortcomings within the TTAADC. He claimed that attempts to obstruct the rally were politically motivated.

Rs 3,450 Crore Allocation: BJP Claims Development Push

Highlighting financial support extended to the tribal council, Bhattacharjee said the BJP-led state government had released Rs 3,450 crore to the TTAADC during the current financial year.

“I am sure the party in power in the TTAADC never publicly acknowledged this allocation nor thanked the state government. That is why efforts were made to stop our programme,” he alleged.

The BJP leader also questioned Tipra Motha’s silence during the prolonged rule of the Left Front in Tripura. He referred to the period of governance under the Communist Party of India (Marxist), stating that tribal-dominated areas like Takarjala, Jampuijala, and Gabordi allegedly suffered from administrative neglect.

“For 25 years under Left rule, development projects were nearly absent in these regions. In the last seven and a half years, our government has ensured that no area is discriminated against. Roads connecting the region to Agartala have improved, and multiple development projects are underway,” he said.

BJP Projects Tribal Outreach

Reiterating the party’s ideological position, Bhattacharjee stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP government remains committed to development-driven governance, particularly for indigenous communities.

He claimed that confusion and misinformation among tribal voters were gradually being addressed, leading to a steady stream of new members joining the party.

The rally at Lamprai market was also attended by BJP General Secretary Bipin Debbarma and other local leaders.
