The district has been selected to showcase its transformative development model after receiving the coveted Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration 2024.
The day-long national conference, organized by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) in collaboration with the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, will bring together administrators and policymakers from across the country. The event is themed “Holistic Development of Districts: Transforming Governance for Viksit Bharat,” underscoring the Centre’s focus on inclusive and integrated growth.
National Recognition for Citizen-Centric Governance
Gomati district’s rise to prominence is rooted in its consistent push for grassroots-driven development and citizen-focused service delivery. Covering the subdivisions of Udaipur, Amarpur, and Karbook, the district has implemented innovative governance strategies that prioritize skill development, livelihood generation, and participatory administration.
A key factor behind its recognition has been the effective implementation of the PM Vishwakarma scheme, aimed at strengthening traditional artisans and boosting livelihoods, especially in challenging and remote terrains. Through targeted interventions, local authorities ensured saturation of flagship schemes, improved last-mile delivery, and enhanced public grievance redressal mechanisms.
Officials say the district’s approach combines community participation with data-driven planning, enabling measurable improvements in public welfare indicators. The conference in Jammu will be jointly inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The inaugural session will feature presentations from Prime Minister’s Award-winning districts for 2023 and 2024.
Besides Gomati, districts such as Eluru in Andhra Pradesh, Koraput in Odisha, and Kargil in the Union Territory of Ladakh will share their success stories. The second technical session will highlight additional award-winning models from Nalbari in Assam and Kupwara.
According to an official statement, the conference aims to disseminate innovative governance practices that have improved service delivery, citizen welfare, and integrated district-level development. The platform will allow district collectors, senior bureaucrats, policymakers, and subject experts to exchange ideas and deliberate on strategies to accelerate India’s development goals.
A Boost for Tripura’s Administrative Profile
For Tripura, Gomati’s participation represents more than ceremonial recognition.
