PMKVY 4.0 launched in Tripura to train 300 engineering graduates in AI, ML, Blockchain, 5G and IoT, with IIT Delhi-led programmes and industry partnerships through IBM and HCL to boost employability and advanced technology skills.

The Directorate of Skill Development, Government of Tripura, on Monday launched the IIT Delhi–led Advanced IT and Emerging Technology Skill Development Programmes under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 4.0 at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Agartala. The initiative marks a major step toward strengthening industry-aligned technical education and improving employability among engineering graduates in the state.

The programmes are being implemented in collaboration with the I-Hub Foundation for Cobotics (IHFC) and the Technology Innovation Hub (TIB) of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. Officials said the initiative aims to equip young professionals with future-ready skills in cutting-edge technology domains that are in high demand across national and global job markets.

As part of the launch, the Directorate of Skill Development signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with global technology leaders IBM and HCL. These partnerships are expected to provide students with industry-linked training, exposure to live projects, internship opportunities, and structured placement support. The collaborations are designed to ensure that the training ecosystem remains aligned with evolving industry requirements and technological advancements.

Under PMKVY 4.0, IIT Delhi will deliver specialised training modules in advanced areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Blockchain, Fifth Generation (5G) communication technologies, and the Internet of Things (IoT). Officials said the curriculum will combine classroom instruction with hands-on laboratory sessions, conducted by IIT Delhi faculty members along with experienced industry professionals.

In the first phase of implementation, 300 engineering graduates from Tripura will be enrolled in the programme. The training will be conducted in collaboration with premier institutions, including NIT Agartala, NIELIT Agartala, MSME Tool Room Agartala, and Tripura University. This multi-institutional approach is expected to strengthen the regional skill development ecosystem and ensure wider outreach.

The programme was inaugurated by IIT Delhi Director Professor Rangan Banerjee, who highlighted the importance of advanced technical training in enhancing employment prospects. He stated that the initiative would enable students from Tripura to acquire globally relevant skills and compete effectively in the technology-driven job market.

Secretary of the Industries and Commerce Department, Kiran Gitte, said the programme was designed to bridge the persistent gap between academic learning and industry expectations. He emphasized that PMKVY 4.0 focuses on creating a skilled workforce capable of meeting the demands of emerging industries and supporting India’s digital and innovation-driven growth.

Officials noted that the initiative forms part of the state government’s broader strategy to strengthen advanced technology skill development and promote youth empowerment. By integrating academic excellence, industry participation, and practical exposure, the programme aims to position Tripura as an emerging hub for skilled technical talent in Northeast India.
