The elections schedule for Tripura and two other North East states -Meghalaya and Nagaland will be announced today at 2.30 p, by the Election Commission of India, said official sources.
The announcement will come following the full ECI holds a meeting in Delhi. And with the announcement of the elections the Model code of Conduct will be immediately come into force restricting the state government announcing any special schemes or measures that may in a way influence the voters.
The term of the present government here will end on March 22 next. In Nagaland it will end on March 12 and in Meghalaya on March 15. As per the norms the new government will have be formed before March 22 here.
The entire ECI team already visited Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland and reviewed the poll preparedness for free and fair elections. The ECI this time is determined to hold an inducement-free and zero violence polls in the three states. According to the officials, the ECI was satisfied with the Tripura poll preparedness and the Commission also assured of all necessary and required help including adequate number of Central Para Military forces to put in a place titght and three tier security blankets during the polls.
The political parties have also been geared to fight the crucial polls with CPM and Congress agreeing to forge an alliance while ruling party holding its all important National Executive meeting in Delhi where the poll matters in Tripura are being discussed. Soon after the BJP’s National Executive meet the party is expected to step up its poll campaign in the state further.
The Congress – CPM are also likely to sit soon again to discuss their seat adjustments. While poll strategies are being formulated and discussed all the political parties -barring IPFT , Amara Bangali -are organizing processions. Meetings and rallies across the state as run up of the high volume election campaigns.
