Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha highlights telemedicine’s role in expanding advanced healthcare access, reducing medical travel, supporting poor patients, and strengthening public health services during the Mukhya Mantri Samipeshu programme.

Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Thursday reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to delivering accessible, affordable, and advanced healthcare services to all citizens, highlighting telemedicine as a transformative tool in strengthening the public health system.

Addressing beneficiaries during the 62nd episode of Mukhya Mantri Samipeshu—the Chief Minister’s public grievance redressal initiative—Dr. Saha emphasized that residents, particularly those from economically weaker sections, should avoid unnecessary financial strain by travelling outside the state for treatment when quality medical services are available locally.

“Advanced medical services can now be provided within Tripura in many cases. Through telemedicine, patients can receive specialized consultations without the need to travel to other states,” the Chief Minister stated, underscoring the growing role of digital healthcare infrastructure in bridging geographical gaps.

The interaction was held at the Chief Minister’s official residence, where Dr. Saha, who also serves as Tripura’s Health and Family Welfare Minister and is a trained dental surgeon, personally listened to medical, social, and financial grievances from people across the state. He directed concerned departments to take immediate and effective action to resolve issues raised during the programme.

Telemedicine, according to the Chief Minister, has significantly improved access to expert medical opinions, especially for patients suffering from chronic and complex diseases. By connecting district and sub-divisional hospitals with specialist doctors and tertiary care institutions, the system has reduced delays in diagnosis and treatment while lowering out-of-pocket expenses for patients.

During the programme, Dr. Saha extended financial support to bereaved families, handing over a cheque of ₹4 lakh to Anukul Das of Anandnagar, whose son recently lost his life in a tragic accident. The gesture reflected the government’s focus on compassionate governance and timely assistance to families in distress.

Responding to medical assistance requests, the Chief Minister directed the Health Department to ensure immediate treatment and uninterrupted supply of essential medicines to Bijankanya Malsom from Paschim Taichlong village under Amarpur subdivision. She had sought support for her father’s medical care, highlighting the difficulties faced by rural families in accessing specialized treatment.

Dr. Saha also instructed officials to arrange advanced medical care for Swapan Pal of Ganki in Khowai district and Biswajit Dhar of Dharmanagar, both diagnosed with complex aplastic anaemia. He stressed that patients suffering from rare or life-threatening conditions should receive priority attention and expert consultation through both in-state facilities and telemedicine platforms.

Several residents from Agartala, Dharmanagar, and Singerbil also approached the Chief Minister seeking assistance for heart-related ailments and other serious health conditions. Assuring them of all possible support, Dr. Saha reiterated that the government remains committed to strengthening critical care services and expanding specialist treatment options within Tripura.

Senior officials present during the programme included Health and Family Welfare Secretary Kiran Gitte, Social Welfare Secretary Tapas Roy, Additional Secretary to the Chief Minister Dr. Samit Roy Chowdhury, along with senior medical officers and departmental representatives.

In a separate public address, Dr. Saha highlighted the state government’s broader social development agenda under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that women empowerment remains a top priority, with multiple initiatives launched to ensure the socio-economic advancement of women. The government aims to encourage women to take leadership roles, achieve self-reliance, and actively contribute across all sectors of society.

Speaking at the inauguration of a three-day district-level fair in Sipahijala, the Chief Minister emphasized inclusive growth, people-centric governance, and the integration of welfare schemes with healthcare and social empowerment initiatives.
