Bhubaneswar: Police on Friday found the body of missing woman cricketer Rajashree Swain hanging from a tree in a dense forest under Gurudijhatia Police station limit in Cuttack district.

Rajashree was missing since January 11 from a selection camp in Bajrakabati road of Cuttack town.

Rajashree who belonged to Bhugaon village under Ramachandi Police station of Puri district was among the 25 players who joined the camp organised for the selection of players for the first three matches of the senior women one day cricket match to be held at Puducherry.

Rajashree did not figure in the list of the selected candidates though her friends said she was an all rounder

After the selection of candidates was over while all players had gone to Dreams College ,Tangi for practice, Rajashree told the coach that she was going to meet her father and did not return.

After that her phone was found switched off . Neither she had gone to her CDA house nor to her father.

Coach Pushpanjali Banerjee lodged a missing complaint with the Mangalabag Police station after she was untraced.

Some people saw a scooter parking in the Forest this morning and informed the Police.

Police rushed to the spot and found that the scooter belonged to Rajashree.A search was conducted and her body was found hanging in a tree about 200 metres away from where the scooter was parked.

Cuttack DCP Pinak Mishra said the body would be sent for postmortem after the family members identified it.

Her father alleged that there were some injury marks on her head and eyelid and said her daughter was murdered.

The DCP said the cause of the death would be known only after the postmortem.
