Prez Droupadi Murmu highlights Tripura’s rapid development in Parliament, citing railway connectivity, healthcare expansion in Agartala, and inclusive growth initiatives during the Budget Session, reflecting the Centre’s strong focus on North-East infrastructure and welfare.
President Droupadi Murmu, in her address at the commencement of the Budget Session of Parliament, placed a special focus on the development journey of Tripura, highlighting key infrastructure and healthcare initiatives that have significantly transformed the northeastern state in recent years. Her remarks underscored the Union government’s broader commitment to balanced regional growth and inclusive national development.
Addressing the joint sitting of Parliament, the President noted that Tripura’s capital city has now been connected through broad-gauge railway lines, marking a historic milestone in the state’s connectivity landscape. She observed that the rail link has accelerated Tripura’s pace of development by integrating it more effectively with the national transport network. According to the President, this improved connectivity has not only strengthened trade and mobility but has also opened up new opportunities in tourism, employment generation, and economic expansion across the state.
President Murmu emphasized that enhanced rail infrastructure plays a crucial role in reducing geographical isolation, especially in the North-East, and acts as a catalyst for sustainable development. She said that better connectivity enables easier access to markets, education, healthcare, and employment, thereby improving the overall quality of life for citizens.
In her address, the President also highlighted the ongoing construction of a specialized hospital for mothers and children in Agartala. Describing it as a transformative initiative, she said the facility would usher in a new era for healthcare services in Tripura. Once completed, the hospital is expected to significantly strengthen maternal and child healthcare, reduce dependency on out-of-state medical facilities, and improve health outcomes for women and children.
The President noted that such healthcare projects reflect the government’s long-term vision of strengthening public health infrastructure, particularly in underserved and geographically challenging regions. She reiterated that accessible and quality healthcare is a cornerstone of inclusive growth and social justice.
Among those present at the joint session was Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Rajib Bhattacharjee, who expressed pride in witnessing the President’s address. He described the occasion as an important constitutional and democratic exercise that outlines the government’s policy priorities and development roadmap for the coming year.
Speaking after the address, Bhattacharjee said that hearing the President speak about Tripura’s progress filled every resident of the state with a sense of pride. He praised the vision and execution of the development projects and expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his sustained focus on the development of Tripura and the North-Eastern region as a whole.
