PM Janjatiya Unnayan Mission launched in Teliamura to empower tribal farmers through organic farming, horticulture promotion, modern agricultural equipment distribution, and sustainable livelihood initiatives under coordinated Central and State government efforts.

The Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Unnayan Mission was formally launched in Teliamura, marking a significant step toward improving the socio-economic condition of farmers, particularly those belonging to tribal communities. The initiative was implemented under the supervision of the Teliamura Agriculture Sub-Division through a coordinated effort between the Central and State governments.

The mission aims to strengthen rural livelihoods by promoting sustainable agriculture, horticulture-based farming, and organic cultivation practices. As part of the launch, a one-day special awareness programme was organized on Wednesday at the Chakmaghat Community Hall under the Mungiakami Rural Development Block. The programme witnessed active participation from farmers, government officials, and representatives of concerned departments.

A major focus of the awareness programme was to encourage farmers in tribal-dominated regions to adopt organic farming methods and diversify into high-value horticultural crops. Experts highlighted the long-term economic benefits of reducing chemical inputs and shifting toward eco-friendly cultivation techniques that preserve soil health and increase market value.

During the event, Minister for Tribal Welfare Bikash Debbarma distributed organic pineapple and banana saplings to 256 farmers, aiming to support income generation through crop diversification. Pineapple and banana cultivation were identified as suitable horticultural activities due to favorable climatic conditions and growing market demand.

To further enhance agricultural productivity, power weeders were handed over to 20 selected farmers. Officials stated that the introduction of modern agricultural machinery would significantly reduce dependency on manual labor, lower production costs, and improve efficiency in farming operations. The move is expected to benefit small and marginal farmers who often struggle with labor shortages during peak farming seasons.

Addressing the media after the programme, Minister Bikash Debbarma said that under the leadership of the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister, the present government is continuously working toward the financial empowerment and social upliftment of farmers. He emphasized that agriculture-based development is central to inclusive growth, especially in tribal areas that have historically faced economic challenges.

“The objective of such missions is to make farming a profitable and sustainable livelihood. By combining organic practices with modern tools, farmers can achieve better yields and stable incomes,” the minister said. He added that the government remains committed to ensuring that welfare schemes reach the grassroots level without delay.

Officials from the Agriculture Department and the Tribal Welfare Department were present at the programme, including Teliamura Agriculture Sub-Division Supervisor Ritesh Dey. They provided technical guidance to farmers on crop management, organic inputs, and government support schemes available under the mission.

According to department officials, the Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Unnayan Mission is expected to generate long-term economic benefits by increasing farmers’ interest in organic cultivation, improving productivity, and creating sustainable income opportunities. The initiative is also likely to strengthen food security and promote environmentally responsible farming practices in the region.

Local farmers expressed optimism about the programme, stating that access to quality saplings and modern equipment would help them expand cultivation and reduce operational difficulties. Many participants welcomed the government’s focus on tribal farmers, calling the mission a positive step toward rural development and self-reliance.

With continued implementation and community participation, the mission is expected to play a crucial role in transforming the agricultural landscape of Teliamura and surrounding tribal-inhabited areas.
