A passenger bus from Kailashahar to Agartala plunged into a deep gorge at Kamalpur’s Saikarbari market area, injuring several passengers. Fire services rescued victims as the injured were rushed to multiple hospitals for treatment.
A passenger bus traveling from Kailashahar to Agartala met with a serious accident after losing control and plunging into a deep gorge at the Saikarbari market area under Kamalpur subdivision on Tuesday. The incident caused panic among passengers and locals, leaving several people injured.
According to official sources, the bus was carrying a total of 32 passengers at the time of the accident. While navigating a sharp curve near the busy market area, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and crash into the gorge below. The impact severely damaged the bus, trapping several passengers inside the wreckage.
Fire service personnel rushed to the scene immediately after receiving information about the accident. With the assistance of local residents, rescue teams worked swiftly to evacuate the injured passengers. Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos as locals rushed forward to help victims even before professional rescuers arrived.
A total of eleven injured passengers were admitted to Kamalpur Subdivisional Hospital for treatment. Five others, whose condition was reported to be more serious, were shifted to Dhalai District Hospital. Additionally, two injured passengers were referred to Fatikroy Hospital for further medical care.
Medical officials stated that most of the injured are currently in stable condition, though some remain under close observation. Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident, including possible mechanical failure or driver error.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns over road safety in hilly and curve-prone areas, with locals demanding improved traffic monitoring and preventive measures to avoid such accidents in the future.
