Jampui Hill leaders and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury outline major tourism development plans, including skywalks, adventure sports, homestays, and water projects, aiming to transform the hill region into a sustainable and community-centered international tourist destination.

The two-day Unity Promo Fest at Vanghmun has emerged as a pivotal platform for advancing the long-term tourism roadmap of Jampui Hill. On the side-lines of the event, a high-level strategic meeting was held at the newly renovated Eden Lodge, where Tripura Tourism Minister Shri Sushanta Chowdhury engaged in an extensive dialogue with local leaders and community representatives. The meeting aimed to outline a practical and collaborative approach to accelerating upcoming tourism development projects across the picturesque hill range.

The discussions focused on a series of proposed infrastructure upgrades designed to boost Jampui Hill’s appeal as a major domestic and international tourist destination. Among the first priorities identified was the construction of a skywalk and a bungee jumping facility, both expected to attract adventure enthusiasts from across the region. Alongside these initiatives, the redevelopment of the existing paragliding site was considered essential to enhance safety, accessibility, and visitor experience.

A key part of the meeting also involved exploring opportunities in the northern villages of Hmawngchuan and Vaisam, identified as high-potential zones for establishing new tourism infrastructure. Local leaders stressed that these areas offer vast natural and cultural assets that, if properly developed, could significantly boost community livelihood opportunities and diversify the region’s tourism offerings.

Another major proposal discussed was the comprehensive development of Thaidawr Tlang, the highest peak in the region. The site holds immense potential for wildlife and nature tourism, and participants advocated for a systematic plan to develop eco-friendly trails, viewing points, and conservation-based tourism activities, all of which could promote sustainable exploration of the mountain’s rich biodiversity.

To strengthen local participation in the tourism expansion plans, leaders emphasized the importance of conducting community outreach initiatives and awareness campaigns. These efforts aim to encourage voluntary land donations, which remain crucial for implementing large-scale eco-tourism projects while protecting the integrity of traditional land ownership and community bonds.

The meeting also focused on policy-building measures, including the introduction of a region-specific Homestay Policy to empower local families to participate directly in tourism-driven income generation. Officials highlighted that homestays would not only support the local economy but also give visitors an authentic cultural experience, promoting the traditions, cuisine, arts, and craftsmanship of the indigenous communities that define Jampui Hill.

One of the most significant challenges repeatedly raised by the community was the persistent water scarcity in the hill area. In response, leaders proposed a mega water supply project paired with rainwater harvesting infrastructure to provide long-term relief. The proposal will be forwarded through the office of the Chief Minister, ensuring that water security becomes a core component of Jampui Hill’s sustainable tourism model.

Throughout the meeting, community representatives expressed their gratitude to the Tourism Minister and the state government for the visible improvements in local infrastructure, including renovated tourist lodges, upgraded roads, and enhanced event facilities. These developments, they noted, have already begun to generate economic opportunities and have renewed optimism among residents about the future of the hill region.

Minister Sushanta Chowdhury reaffirmed the government’s strong commitment to making Jampui Hill one of India’s premier tourism destinations. He praised the natural beauty, cultural heritage, and harmonious social fabric of the region, stating that tourism here must remain community-centred, environmentally responsible, and reflective of its rich indigenous identity. He assured the gathering that he would continue investing his full efforts and administrative support into transforming Jampui Hill into a globally recognized destination.

Echoing similar sentiments, the Minister shared that developing Jampui Hill’s tourism potential is not merely an economic initiative but a long-term vision aimed at elevating Tripura’s presence on the world tourism map. With active collaboration between government departments, local communities, and cultural groups, the region is now set to embark on a new phase of growth.

The strategic meeting concluded on an optimistic note, with all stakeholders aligning on the shared mission of fostering sustainable tourism and ensuring that the benefits reach every household in the hill communities. As development plans move forward, Jampui Hill appears poised to emerge as one of Northeast India’s most vibrant and eco-friendly destinations.
