The ‘Commissionerate of Transport’ or ‘Directorate of Transport Office’ is going to be launchedfor the first time in the State Department of Transport. It has been decided to launch the ‘Commissionerate of Transport Office’ for the general public to give several benefits of the Department of Transport and to convey the work of the Department of Transport, said Secretary of the Department of Transport Uttam Kumar.
The Secretary said at present the Department of Transport is implementing several projects of the Central and State Governments whose revenue is about Rs 251 crore. Also, the Transport Department has set a target to collect more than Rs 110 crore in the current financial year and about Rs 70 crore has been collected.
He said soon international flight service will start on Agartala-Chittagong-Agartala route. For this, SpiceJet Airlines has been approached from the Ministry of Civil Aviation on September 12 last.
Chakma said the Union Ministry of Railway has also allocated Rs 972 crore s for the implementation of 12.3 km-long Agartala-Akhaura rail link project in 2012-13. At present, 81% of Indian portion of the project has been completed. It is expected that the work will be completed by March 2023.
He said a proposal was sent to the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation by the State Government for the construction of green- field airport at Hiracherra of Unakoti district. In view of the proposal from the State Government, agency from the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation was deputed on August 17 last to carry out the survey work and prepare the project report for the green-field Airport construction. The agency completed the topography survey on October 20, 2022 and is currently completing ancillary work including other tests. The agency has completed the preparation of DPR and has sent it to the state government.
Chakma said, a proposal was sent by the Transport Department to the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation for the construction of six heliports in the state under ‘Heli Tourism Policy’. The six places proposed for construction of heliports are Matabari in Udaipur, Narikelkunja in Dumbur Nagar, Vanghmun in Jampui, Raipasha in Ambassa, Debbari in Amarpur and Maicherra in Belonia. He said that the railway authorities are working on the construction of modern railway yard with all facilities at Nishchintapur under Agartala-Akhaura rail link project. Besides, an initiative has been taken to construct 23 Railway over bridgeson the Agartala-Kumarghat railway.
An initiative has also been taken to build 2 regional driving training centres in Gomati district and Unakoti district. Furthermorea multi-modal logistics park is being constructed at Nischintapur and the construction of a modern ‘Rail Yard’ by the Railway has already completed. Besides, the Landport Authority of India will construct an integrated check-post there and 40 acres of land has already been identified.
