Puducherry has been experiencing continuous rainfall since last night, following the formation of a low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal. A rainfall of 47.6 mm was recorded in Puducherry in the last 24 hours. The Chennai Meteorological Centre had earlier warned of heavy rain in Puducherry and Tamil Nadu and issued an orange alert. Heavy showers disrupted normal life across Puducherry and Karaikal districts. Fishermen have stayed ashore due to rough sea conditions. In view of the persistent rainfall, Puducherry Education Minister Namassivayam has declared a one-day holiday today for all schools and colleges in Puducherry and Karaikal districts. The district administration has stated that it is fully prepared to manage the situation.
