Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha expressed concern over poor medical college results, urging immediate review. At GBP Hospital, he launched new healthcare projects, including telemedicine and IDCMS, reaffirming Tripura’s commitment to modern, advanced, and accessible healthcare services.

Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Monday voiced deep concern over the disappointing results of the recent semester examinations in the state’s medical colleges. Speaking at an event held at GBP Hospital, Agartala, Dr. Saha stated that the issue has been taken up seriously and directed the Health Secretary to immediately investigate the matter and recommend corrective measures.

“This situation cannot continue. The issue must be examined thoroughly and appropriate measures must be taken at the earliest,” said Dr. Saha, emphasizing the government’s zero-tolerance approach to academic decline in medical institutions.

The Chief Minister was addressing the gathering during the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Central Clinical Block (CCB), Communicable Disease Centre (CDC), and Special Ward at GBP Hospital. The event also marked the digital launch of the Telemedicine Linkage with Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI), Lucknow, and the Inter Departmental Referral System (IDRS) — major steps toward digitizing and modernizing Tripura’s healthcare infrastructure.

Focus on Quality Healthcare and Infrastructure Expansion

Dr. Saha underlined that his government remains steadfast in its mission to upgrade and expand medical facilities in the state. He noted that continuous improvements at Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GBP Hospital have significantly reduced the number of patients referred to hospitals outside Tripura.

“Our commitment to delivering advanced healthcare services through AGMC and GBP Hospital has resulted in a significant drop in referral cases. The state government has plans to introduce four new super-speciality services soon,” Dr. Saha said.

Expressing satisfaction over the progress achieved, the Chief Minister lauded the dedication and professional excellence of doctors and healthcare workers in Tripura’s public medical institutions.

“I am very happy to see our doctors at AGMC and GBP Hospital achieving new heights even in complex medical procedures,” he added.

Emphasis on Modernization and Digital Health Systems

Highlighting the role of digital connectivity in healthcare, Dr. Saha said that the new projects and systems will further strengthen coordination, patient care, and institutional management.

“To further strengthen Tripura’s health services, today we have laid the foundation stone of several major projects and virtually inaugurated the Inter Departmental Call Management System (IDCMS) to improve coordination and patient care,” he stated.

The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s focus on bridging healthcare gaps between rural and urban populations through telemedicine and real-time inter-departmental communication.

Dignitaries in Attendance

The event, organized at the KLS Auditorium of AGMC & GBP Hospital, was attended by several key dignitaries and senior health officials. Alongside the Chief Guest and Inaugurator, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, the Guest of Honour was Smt. Mina Rani Sarkar, Hon’ble MLA & Chairperson, R.K.S., AGMC & GBP Hospital.

The government plans to introduce four more super-speciality services soon,” Dr. Saha said in Bengali, adding that the recent projects are a continuation of the state’s roadmap for modern, efficient healthcare delivery.

With Tripura’s health sector undergoing rapid transformation, the Chief Minister’s remarks reflect a dual focus — addressing academic shortcomings in medical education while accelerating infrastructure and technological advancement in patient care.
