Tripura invests Rs 303 crore to boost agricultural markets, aiming for self-reliance and rural employment. Minister Ratan Lal Nath inaugurates key facilities in Gomati district, reinforcing the state’s commitment to empowering farmers and developing sustainable agri-infrastructure.

Tripura’s Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Monday announced that the state has spent Rs 303 crore over the past seven years to strengthen its agricultural market infrastructure a significant step toward achieving self-reliance and employment in every household.

Speaking at the inauguration of a multi-storied office building for the Agriculture and Horticulture departments at Udaipur and the Rajarbag Primary Rural Market in Gomati district, Nath said the new facilities mark a milestone in the government’s mission to make Tripura self-sufficient and economically empowered.

“Our main aim is to become a self-reliant India and a self-sufficient Tripura. We want employment in every house. It is not possible to give government jobs to everyone, but we can provide employment opportunities — this is also the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” said Minister Ratan Lal Nath.

According to Nath, the multi-storied office building was constructed at a cost of Rs 9 crore, while Rs 2.27 crore was spent to develop the Rajarbag Primary Rural Market.

The new office will bring all agriculture-related services under one roof, ensuring faster assistance, guidance, and distribution of materials to farmers.

In a statement during the event, Nath said:

Today we inaugurated a new multi-storied building for the Agriculture Department in Udaipur so that farmers coming from distant places can receive guidance, assistance, and agricultural materials without any delay. This was envisioned to bring all branches under one roof.”

Massive Investment in Agricultural Markets

Highlighting the government’s commitment to rural and agricultural development, Nath said,

“Before 2018, the previous government had spent just Rs 20 crore, but in the last seven years, we have invested Rs 303 crore in developing agricultural markets.”

He added that the majority of market projects have already been completed, with over 120 markets sanctioned, of which 50 have been completed and work is ongoing for 70 more. Additionally, the government plans to set up 60 new agricultural markets, ensuring one in each Assembly constituency.

“These efforts are not just about production but also about helping farmers sell their products effectively,” Nath said. “Earlier, farmers were not given the respect they deserved. Today, under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, they are being respected and supported as providers of our food. Farmers are like gods who feed the nation.”

Employment and Empowerment Through Agriculture

The minister reiterated that self-reliance and job creation are central to the government’s vision. “Employment opportunities are being generated in every household,” Nath said, emphasizing that agriculture and allied sectors can become major sources of sustainable income for rural families.

He called upon all citizens and public representatives to respect farmers, adding,

“Life is like a notebook — God writes the first and last pages, symbolizing birth and death. The middle pages are blank, and we must fill them with our deeds.”

The Minister praised Gomati district as the best-performing district in agricultural production, urging further development and maintenance of market cleanliness. He also acknowledged the joint efforts of the central and state governments in transforming Tripura’s agricultural infrastructure.

Dignitaries Present

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, along with MLAs Rampada Jamatia, Jitendra Majumder, Abhishek Debroy, Sanjoy Manik Tripura, Pathan Lal Jamatia, and Ranjit Das.
