RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav files nomination from Raghopur, declaring assets worth ₹8.1 crore, including a Beretta pistol and 50 live cartridges. The filing saw a massive show of strength with senior RJD leaders accompanying him amid Bihar poll fervor.

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav filed his nomination papers on Wednesday for the Raghopur Assembly constituency in Vaishali district, marking the beginning of his campaign for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections 2025. The event turned into a grand political spectacle as thousands of supporters thronged the roads in a massive show of strength, reaffirming Tejashwi’s dominance in Bihar’s political landscape.

Tejashwi, accompanied by senior party leaders Lalu Prasad Yadav, Rabri Devi, Misa Bharti, and Sanjay Yadav, arrived at the nomination venue in a roadshow that stretched for several kilometres. Slogans of “Bihar Maange Badlaav” (Bihar demands change) echoed across Raghopur as the RJD’s top brass projected Tejashwi as the face of a “youth-driven transformation” for the state.

Declaration of Assets: ₹8.1 Crore and a Pistol

In his nomination affidavit, Tejashwi Yadav declared total assets worth ₹8.1 crore, showing a significant increase compared to the previous election cycle. According to the details, his movable assets amount to ₹6.12 crore, while immovable properties are valued at ₹1.88 crore.

Among the notable disclosures, Tejashwi listed an Italian-made Beretta pistol and 50 live cartridges valued at ₹1.05 lakh, besides high-end electronics including a desktop and a laptop. He also declared ₹1.5 lakh in cash, multiple bank accounts, and liabilities worth ₹55.55 lakh, which include joint loans with his mother Rabri Devi and brother Tej Pratap Yadav.

The affidavit also mentioned that Tejashwi owns 200 grams of gold and 2 kilograms of silver, while his wife, Rajshree Yadav, possesses 480 grams of gold.

Family Wealth Details

Rajshree Yadav, in her individual declaration, reported assets worth ₹1.88 crore, including ₹59.69 lakh in immovable property and ₹1 lakh in cash. Notably, she has no government dues or liabilities, whereas Tejashwi listed government dues amounting to ₹1.35 crore.

The figures collectively reflect a steady rise in the Yadav family’s declared assets over recent years, indicating growing financial prosperity even as the family remains a key political player in Bihar’s evolving landscape.

Political Momentum and Support

The nomination event was not merely a procedural step but a display of the RJD’s renewed strength ahead of a fiercely contested election. Supporters, waving party flags and chanting slogans, marched alongside Tejashwi’s convoy, signaling the RJD’s strong grassroots mobilization.

Addressing the media before filing his papers, Tejashwi expressed confidence in securing another victory from Raghopur. “The people of Raghopur have trusted me twice. This is my third nomination, and I am confident they will bless me again,” he said.

He further added, “The people of Bihar are tired of crime, corruption, and unemployment. This time, change is certain — Bihar will get a Grand Alliance government.”

Targeting the Ruling JDU

In a sharp attack on the ruling Janata Dal (United), Tejashwi claimed that the party has lost its ideological foundation. “The JDU is now being run by Lalan Singh, Sanjay Jha, and Vijay Chaudhary. These three have sold out to the BJP. Nitish Kumar’s JDU is no more,” he remarked, triggering loud cheers from supporters.

Tejashwi Yadav has represented the Raghopur seat twice, having first won in 2015 and retaining it in 2020. The constituency, known for its large Yadav voter base, remains a stronghold for the RJD. Political analysts believe that the upcoming election will once again test Tejashwi’s leadership and his ability to unite the opposition against the BJP-JDU alliance.

A Symbolic Nomination

For many observers, Tejashwi’s nomination marks more than just a formality — it signals the RJD’s readiness for an all-out political battle. With his father Lalu Prasad Yadav’s symbolic presence and the active involvement of the Yadav family, the RJD aims to present a united front under Tejashwi’s youthful leadership.

As Bihar gears up for high-stakes elections, Tejashwi’s declaration of wealth — including his licensed pistol and ammunition — adds a dramatic layer to his public image. While critics may question the optics of such possessions, supporters argue that the young leader’s transparency and energy represent a new era in Bihar politics.
