In Bangladesh, at least 16 people were killed and several injured after a fire broke out at a chemical godown and a garment factory in Mirpur area of the capital Dhaka on Tuesday. An official said, the death toll expected to rise as rescue efforts continued. Lt Col Tajul Islam Chowdhury, Director of the Fire Service and Civil Defence, confirmed that 16 bodies have been recovered so far.
He said, the bodies of the victims have been sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for identification adding that the identities of the victims could not be confirmed without DNA tests. He mentioned that there were seven to eight different types of chemicals stored in the warehouse, including bleaching powder, plastic, and hydrogen peroxide.
