Nepal President Holds All-Party Meeting Ahead of 2026 House Elections

In Kathmandu, an all-party meeting is taking place at the President’s Office Sheetal Niwas under the invitation of President of Nepal, Ramchandra Paudel. The Prime Minister of the interim government along with incumbent ministers is also attending the all party meeting. The consultations between President Paudel and the political party leaders are taking place for the first time after the Gen-Z protest that toppled Oli’s government, leading to formation of a new interim government and the dissolution of the House of Representatives. The date for election to a new House of Representatives is declared as March 5, 2026.
From the Nepali Congress, Vice-Chairman Purna Bahadur Khadka and General Secretary Gagan Thapa are attending. From CPN(UML) Senior Vice-President Ishwar Pokharel and General Secretary Shankar Pokharel are attending the meeting while the Maoist Centre is represented by Senior Vice-Chair Narayankaji Shrestha and Deputy General Secretary Barshaman Pun.
Other participants include Acting President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party DP Aryal and  Joint General Secretary Bipin Kumar Acharya; Gyanendra Shahi and Mina Lama from Rastriya Prajatantra Party; Vice-Chair Rajendra Pandey and General Secretary Ghanshyam Bhusal from CPN (Unified Socialist). Dr. Jayakant Raut from Janamat Party, Renu Yadav from Janata Samajbadi Party, Gyanendra Jha and Sarbendranath Shukla from Loktantrik Samajbadi Party, Sunil Prajapati from Nepal Majdoor Kisan Party, and Resham Chaudhary from the Nagrik Unmukti Party are attending the meeting.
The Election Commission of Nepal will be holding consultation with political parties on October 16. Till date there are 29 political parties who have at least one representative in Local or federal government. The Election Commission has suggested any new political party willing to contest elections in march next year to register oneself by November 16.
