The death toll in the collapse of a school in East Java of Indonesia, has risen to 54, with rescue operations ongoing. A joint team recovered eight more bodies last evening from the Sidoarjo Regency site. So far, 157 people have been found, including 104 survivors.
Rescue teams are now focusing on the site’s northern area using heavy machinery after no further signs of life were detected. The building collapsed on September 29 while students were inside. Authorities suspect poor construction practices and revealed that the school lacked proper permits. Search teams continue working amid difficult conditions.
