China has activated a Level-IV emergency response for flood control in Yunnan Province amid forecasts of heavy rainfall caused by Typhoon Matmo. The State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters has dispatched a work team to support local efforts.
Typhoon Matmo, the 21st named storm of this year Pacific season, brought torrential rain to southern China, with some areas expected to receive up to 190 mm. The storm made landfall in Guangdong’s Xuwen County on October 5, damaging power grids and causing widespread outages.
Nearly 40,000 emergency workers have been mobilised. Meteorologists warn continued rainfall may impact Zhanjiang and Maoming.
