More than 42 community puja idols participated in this year’s carnival, including the Durga idols installed by the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC). These idols, adorned with elaborate decorations, were paraded on beautifully decorated trucks and trailers, passing through major areas of the capital city before their immersion at the Dashamighat section of the Howrah (Haora) River.

A unique feature of the processions was the incorporation of contemporary themes, reflecting the nation’s resilience and valor. Among the highlights were displays commemorating the Armed Forces’ successful ‘Operation Sindoor,’ executed in response to the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22. These displays not only added a modern touch to the traditional celebrations but also reinforced a sense of patriotism and collective pride among participants and spectators alike.

Chief Minister Manik Saha, who also holds the Information and Cultural Affairs portfolio, described the ‘Mayer Gaman’ carnival as Tripura’s biggest cultural event. He emphasized that since its inception in 2022, the carnival has become an

essential element of the state’s cultural identity, providing a platform to showcase Tripura’s rich heritage. “During the carnival, several cultural troupes highlighted our traditional arts, music, and dances. The state government aims to further strengthen and promote these cultural aspects,” CM Saha stated.

The Chief Minister also commended the smooth and peaceful conduct of the five-day Durga Puja festivities, held from September 28 to October 2, attributing the success to the diligent efforts of the police, power, and other government departments. “As the Dhak echoed in devotion, it became an unforgettable moment of Mayer Gaman,” CM Saha added, highlighting the deep spiritual and cultural significance of the festival.

Pradeep Kumar Chakravarty, Secretary of the Information and Cultural Affairs Department, announced that the three best clubs and puja organizers participating in the carnival would be honored in an upcoming award ceremony. He also shared plans for another annual event, ‘Sarad Samman,’ which will recognize 43 clubs across the state for their exemplary organization of Durga Puja, emphasizing both traditional and contemporary cultural elements.

Hundreds of spectators attended the carnival, enjoying the performances and parades with their families.

Unlike the Puja days, which experienced intermittent rains, the weather during the carnival was clear, allowing participants and visitors to fully appreciate the colorful celebrations.

Tripura Police Chief Anurag reported that around 3,000 community pujas were organized this year, an increase from 2,750 in 2024. In West Tripura alone, 775 community pujas took place. In addition to public celebrations, many affluent families hosted private Durga Puja events. To ensure a safe and peaceful environment, over 8,000 police and security personnel were deployed across all eight districts of the state, including more than 400 women police officers and numerous plainclothes officers.
